A 22-year-old Winnipeg man is charged with two separate incidents of sexually assaulting teenaged girls in the city, police say.

The man, posing as a 17-year-old, used social media to communicate with and lure the victims between March and April 2024, according to a news release from Winnipeg police.

He gained the trust of the girls, who are both in their early teens, and formed relationships that subsequently led to him sexually assaulting them, police allege.

Investigators identified the man and arrested him on Tuesday. He is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and luring.

The investigation is continuing but the man has been released from custody on a court order prohibiting contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Anyone with information, or who wishes to speak with an investigator, is asked to call the sex crimes unit at 204-986-6245.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted by phone to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477), or online through the agency's website.
