Keith A. Smith, 63, of Farina died at 11:56 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Allen Mason, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pagel Funeral Home, St. Peter. Burial with military rites will follow in Farina Cemetery, Farina. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to Farina Ambulance or the donor’s choice. Keith was born Oct. 19, 1947, in St. Elmo, the son of Francis E. “Gene” and Iris (Hanger) Smith and married Linda Dunmore. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He was a past oilfield worker and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and NASCAR. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Farina; children, Todd Smith at home, Toby Smith of Kinmundy, Jennifer Smith of Indianapolis, Nicole Smith of Farina and Ashley Schooley of Farina; 10 grandchildren, Keasha, Megan, Brittany, Amanda, Xander, Jalen, Jillian, Zoey, Madeline and Jordan; sister-in-law, Beverly “Bev” Smith of Watson; and many nieces and nephews. Keith was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Carl and Kenneth “Kenny” Smith.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
