Lowe's Store Card Review Highlights
Here’s what you need to know about the Lowe’s Store Card before you apply.
Way better for rewards than financing. The Lowe’s Credit Card lets you choose between saving 5% on everything you buy at the store and paying down big-ticket purchases with “special” financing. But it’s an easy decision, considering what’s hiding within the financing promotion: a feature known as “deferred interest”. You can get a 0% intro rate for six months on purchases of at least $299, but if you miss a due date along the way or don’t repay your full balance by the six-month mark, interest will retroactively apply to your original purchase amount at the full regular rate. So what seems like a great way to save money could easily end up costing you big-time. A better approach is to use the Lowe’s Card to earn rewards on purchases you can repay within a single billing period and get a 0% credit card that’s not associated with a particular retailer for purchases you’ll pay off over time.
Extremely high regular APR. If you’re not convinced that carrying a balance from month to month with the Lowe’s Store Card is a bad idea, just consider the rate at which you’ll pay interest when its standard terms are in effect. The regular APR is well above the average among credit cards for fair credit – the minimum credit standing required for Lowe’s Card approval.
No annual fee is nice. This makes the Lowe’s Credit Card $22.29 cheaper than the average card and enables you to maximize your savings.
Fairly easy to get approved for. You only need “fair” credit to get approved for the Lowe’s Store Card. That, combined with its lack of an annual fee, makes the Lowe’s Card a decent choice for low-cost credit improvement. If you aren’t sure how good your credit is, you can check your credit score for free on WalletHub

Opened a Lowe's credit card. They just sent me a notice saying that they canceled my account. Haven't missed a payment, wasn't over the limit. Canceled because my other cards were high. Unfair tactics.

I own a construction company, and in November of 2023, I paid off the card as I always do but used the wrong bank to pay. When I realized my error, I immediately paid the card. This same error happened in May of 2024. I immediately paid the card when I realized my error, and Synchrony Bank, the card issuer, closed my account. My credit score is very good. My track record with the Lowe's credit card has been flawless, other than the abovementioned. I have had the card since 2021. It seems quite unfair to close the account without even a warning. I have other Synchrony cards, but this one has been disappointing. There is a complete lack of communication to the cardholder. I am grateful I only used it for convenience.

I have had numerous issues with this card/company. The most significant problem is that they reduced my credit limit without providing any warning, which brought my utilization close to 90%. Additionally, it takes a week to process my payment, the customer service is dreadful, and the card is defective. Other than that, it works great....

I applied for this card on December 5th 2023. I chose the option to receive 0% interest for 12 months. Can you guess what happened? I was charged interest just 8 months shy of 12 months... After calling their "services", they informed me that because I made another purchase I was charged interest. Pretty dumb, right? You would expect 12 months 0% interest to last 12 months no questions asked. I also spoke with the employees at Lowes, and they assured me that I would not be charged interest for 12 months if I chose this option over the 20% off your first purchase. But, maybe it's my fault. I should have gone to law school so that I could have informed myself by reading their lengthy disclosure containing unfamiliar jargon meant to confuse the customer. I wish I had researched this card more. The 5% back only helps if you are able to pay off the card each month, otherwise, they earn that money right back on interest. Plan to cancel this card ASAP.

After years of paying on time and periodically paying it off, they just decided to reduce my balance. We usually keep a low balance but had thought we'd buy a few tools on sale and would have plenty of available credit. Nope! Not since they lowered my balance by hundreds of dollars. Now my credit score is worse, too. Why punish people for not doing anything wrong and actually buying tools on sale?

Ridiculous interest rates are typical with Synchrony Bank credit cards. I have excellent credit, an excellent payment history, I never pay late, and I even pay off early, but none of that matters to Synchrony Bank. Their rate is 28.99%, so if you make a $100 purchase and neglect to pay it off quickly, the amount to pay back is $128.99. You are giving them $28.99 just for using the card. If that isn't considered unreasonable, I don't know what is. I work in law enforcement and serve about 20 civil papers a week that Synchrony files against people, and I am one deputy of 12. Out of all the card companies out there, Synchrony is the most egregious. Do yourself a favor and stay away from these companies that charge extremely high interest rates.

Full of traps to get late fees and interest from you. Logging in and viewing statements has issues, and you can't set up auto-pay on deferred parts only. It's the worst store card I've used. I would suggest, if you get it, to use it only for non-deferred or only for deferred purchases.

After a late fee, which I admit was my fault, and the fact that they are charging a $1.99 fee for paper statements, I decided to cancel my account. The representative was nice but seemed indifferent to the fact they were losing a customer. So, goodbye Lowe's and hello Home Depot!

2 Stars Is For Synchrony Bank's Customer Service. The people you talk to are unprofessional; one even hung up on me today while I was trying to get an answer. Called one of my banks to get the answer I needed. I will be canceling the card after my check clears. Lowe's should take a hard look at this Mickey Mouse bank they're working with, because this will unfortunately reflect on them.

Closed in less than 5 months. I had a slight decrease in credit score (30 points or so), and Synchrony entirely closed this card within 4-5 months. So beware, this is a very anti-consumer card, and you will have to use this card sparingly, basically not at all, to keep it open and ensure nothing changes in your credit, or it will be gone.
