An Important Piece of the Overall Narrative
Guzmán plays Luis, the nurse taking care of Earl Partridge, the central character of the movie. While he might not have too much screen time or steal any scenes, his character plays an important role in bringing the narrative together. A Memorable Bodyguard
Luis Guzmán stars in the role of Pachanga, Carlito’s bodyguard and ally, in their Spanish Harlem neighborhood. He is one of the supporting characters that greatly contributes to the excellence of the movie. There’s a scene when he’s talking to Al Pacino about how the newbies in the underworld have no morale, which does a great job of revealing the multiple layers to his character. Some Much-Needed Levity
Guzmán's performance was praised for being realistic and intense, as it captured the emotional and physical challenges faced by Law Enforcement in the war on drug dealing. Guzmán's Ray does an excellent job of capturing the depth of emotions and the internal turmoil his character faces in the course of the movie. He also adds a layer of hilarity to the movie in scenes when he calls Eduardo sugarfoot and asks him how he likes his new place in prison, or when he tells a joke comparing women to hurricanes. This movie also rightfully won the SAGA Award for Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Theatrical Motion Picture.

Guzmán Stands Out Among a Talented Cast
Luis Guzmán stars as the manager of the nightclub, Maurice, an ostentatious and ambitious character that manages to stand out amidst the star-studded cast. Even his epic opening scene with Juliane Moore is a testament to how great his presence is. The movie also won an FFCC award for the Best Cast, which isn’t surprising at all.
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
The Count of Monte Cristo is a drama film based on the novel by Alexandre Damas of the same name. It follows the story of Edmond Dantès, a young sailor who is falsely accused and imprisoned for being a Bonapartist agent. He later manages to escape prison and take on the identity of the Count of Monte Cristo. Edmond then proceeds to exact revenge on those who wronged him.

Along his journey, Edmond comes across Jacopo, who is played by Luis Guzmán. Jacopo, is an imprisoned pirate, who grows to be Edmond’s trusty sidekick. His introductory scene, where he swears on his dead relatives and even on the sick ones to serve Dantes, is a good reason why Guzmán's role is important to the movie. He adds a layer of comedy to the otherwise serious premise while helping the plot move forward.

A More Accurate Gomez Addams
