The Golden Palominos get the remix treatment for PRISON OF THE RHYTHM; the original is grindy funk, carried by the rhythm and Lori Carson’s fragile voice, but Bill Laswell’s mix dubs up the track into a long, slow jam (with ambient, pornographic interludes!). The Psychick Warriors ov Gaia loop a rhythm and give the track a hypnotic pull, while Adam Peters gives it a slightly more tech feel, with a Roland line and a more prominent kick drum. Overall, though, these mixes don’t do enough to expand the original; they all seem like minor variations, rather than transformations.
