I don't know when this happened but Sinatra Reprise: The Very Good Years seems to have gone out of print. :(

I already own it but I'm a bit sad taht this great compilation won't be available new for newer fans. It was a fine introduction to his Reprise years for me 4 years ago when I bougnt it.

    If you're talking about a single-CD compilation, it's still available at bmgmusic.com

That must be one of the only places then. I assume it's out of print and they're just selling off the last of the remaining stock?

Not sure. They have 20+ different selections. It seems BMG and Sony have left the bmgmusic.com club, but Universal and WB labels are still there. I'm not sure who owns Capitol anymore, but you can still get the Beach Boys and Frank Sinatra.

The single disc is not available at cduniverse but the four disc box set is.

Don't know but glad I got it back when......:)

I dont know, but a single disc to cover this whole period seems pointless anyway. Even the 4 cd set barely scratches the surface and lacks a lot, as good as it actually is.

The best way to hear Frank is to get a bunch of his actual albums IMO anyway....his catalog is so vast, a single disc comp can never cover enough to get any sort of historical perspective...

Is there something special soundswise about this ? Or is it just a good set to have for the Reprise stuff?

But that's the whole point of a compilation- it's there to be cheaper than buying 15 CDs of material and having to sit through lesser songs (or songs you just don't want to hear) to get to the hits you do want (I'm speaking for the casual consumer).

Are there any 2-disc Reprise-era comps in print?

I'm no audiophile but it sounds fine to me, and it was the first time I got to hear a lot of the songs (being the first Sinatra CD I bought), so I like the track selection.

Capitol has been owned by EMI for many years.

New York, New York plays fine until you get to the last 20 seconds or so, then it hangs. Is my copy of this one exceptional?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "hangs"?

I love the box set and I notice the single disc does not have one of my favorites Come Rain or Come Shine....

DJ...I have been doing that with his Capitol albums....I guess I should go that way with Reprise....even though I have the box set? Any suggestions?

Sure. It sends the CD player(s) into never never land, making odd noises etc. I used Toast to load it onto the computer. Same thing. Just checked the copy in iTunes. It starts going haywire at 3:12.

Ring A Ding Ding is my fave for sure
one or both with Basie either Basie-Sinatra or "it might as well be swing"
Francis A and Edward K, his outing with the Duke
the Jobim one (if you like the bossa thing)
    Swingin Brass
    Swing Along With Me
    I remember Tommy

    mellower ones
    Moonlight Sinatra
    Sinatra and STrings
    All Alone

all these are really great records....

  18. It's crispy sounding, IMO. Not bad, not great. Utilitarian.

A better set is the Reprise "Everything Happens To Me" single disc comp. Which claims the songs were all personally selected by Frank Sinatra.
There's some out of the way gems on it, like the 1981 version of the title song, which was left off the album it was originally intended for. And more.

Rhino and the Sinatra family have formed a partnership to preserve (and sell) Frank's legacy going forward...they just released a new compilation, and I imagine they have been clearing the slate of some titles to make way for this one and others (and possibly reissuing older stuff).

seems some of the reprise titles are disappearing as of late....

the current batch of albums like the ones I mentioned above sound pretty good in their current masterings, not sure if they'll be bettered or worsted by new versions....

I don't think it's technically in print, but I recently found it easy to obtain the 2 disc "The Very Best of Frank Sinatra (Reprise)" on CD via e-bay.

That's an excellent collection and was also great because it had some gems not on most collections and has one of my favorite recordings of his - another later one, "The Gal That Got Away/It Never Entered My Mind"

It also had very little overlap with the best of the reprise years disc (which I think does have a better song selection than the single disc set out this week).

WATERTOWN definitely must be heard in it's entirety. Excellent concept album. :righton:

Thanks for the Reprise suggestions DJ and rob68.

  25. I wonder if "She Shot Me Down" is ever going to see another CD release, besides the one that came and went years ago. If not, it's sure a good thing to own a turntable.
