Vivian Trimble’s legacy
In 1991, Vivian Trimble joined with Jill Cunniff and Gabby Glaser, who had already formed Luscious Jackson, an alternative rock group that forged a unique sound by drawing on influences from rap. The band caught the attention of the Beastie Boys, who signed them to their new label, Grand Royal. An EP, “In Search of Manny,” and an album, “Natural Ingredients,” soon followed.
Trimble and the band enjoyed success in the alternative scene. They made appearances on MTV’s “120 Minutes” and “Saturday Night Live,” played on the Lollapalooza tour, and even appeared on the Nickelodeon show “The Adventures of Pete and Pete.” Their biggest song was 1996’s “Naked Eye,” which hit the Billboard Top 40.
Trimble left the band in 1998 and formed her own band, Dusty Trails, with Josephine Wiggs of The Breeders. She also recorded an album with bandmate Jill Cunniff under the name Kostars.
In addition to being a musician, Trimble was also a choreographer.
