RICK & MORTY: THE ANIME Story Details and Clip Featuring Morty Being Celebrated as a Hero

Adult Swim has released another fun clip from its upcoming Rick and Morty spinoff animated series Rick and Morty: The Anime.

Rick and Morty: The Anime will show “Rick relaxing in a pseudo-world between multiverses, Summer helping Space Beth fight the evil Galactic Federation, and Morty falls in love with a mysterious girl who happens to be an atemporal being.

“So… more of the same for the Sanchez family. However, mysteriously absent from this recap is the status of Jerry Smith.” It’s explained that members of the Smith family will “explore new depths in this new world, and that included Jerry.”

The preview of Rick and Morty: The Anime features Morty on a new planet with a new alien species, who are celebrating the fact that he saved their planet.

There’s a sign that reads “Happy Independence Day” and a picture of Morty’s face is plastered across a building while the alien species radio explains that Morty is about to be honored.

The series was directed by Takashi Sano, and when talking about it, he said: “What I’ve tried to accomplish with these 10 episodes is to take all my favorite parts of watching Rick and Morty, compress the down to extract their essence, and then add a unique Japanese twist. I’d like you to enjoy Rick and Morty’s adventures as they are wisked through time and space, tangled up in all sorts of chaos.”

He added: "The multiverse-straddling exploits of Rick and the gang pose challenges to the family bond, but they always rise to the occasion. It's such a life-affirming sight, and Jerry is no exception. I am honored to have been given an opportunity to tell a new story about this amazing family. I hope you enjoy their adventures!"

Rick and Morty: The Anime is coming sometime this year on Adult Swim and Max.
