Lake Washington High School Reviews

Lake Washington High School was a fantastic school which offered a variety of high-level courses such as College English courses and plenty of AP classes. The Atmosphere is good, the building is always getting bigger with better facilities and the people are nice as well. Parking is a bit of a nightmare, but other than that it is central to town and has great sports teams. Overall it is a great school and I would highly recommend it to middle schoolers that are looking to go into high school in Washington.
My experience at Lake Washington High School has been exceptional, consistently ranking among the top high schools in Washington State. The school's commitment to academic excellence is evident through its rigorous curriculum, while its diverse and inclusive environment fosters a sense of belonging and celebrates cultural diversity. However, opportunities for improvement include expanding extracurricular activities to cater to a wider range of interests and fostering stronger communication between students, faculty, and administration. By addressing these areas, Lake Washington High can continue to uphold its reputation for excellence and ensure that every student feels supported and empowered to succeed.
As a student at this school in a good area, my experience has been good but with some challenges. The school looks great, with nice buildings and green areas. The classrooms have a lot of tech, which is cool but can be a bit much sometimes. The teachers know their stuff, but they're often too busy to give us much personal attention. There are lots of clubs and sports to join, but they're pretty competitive. We do community service projects, but they often feel like just another requirement. Overall, the school has a lot to offer, but it's not always easy.
Overall, I love the community's throughout out high school since there a great range of interests within our community. Our school offers many opportunities to all students and other resources involving academics. We have a fair range of sports, clubs and activities. We have a lot of staff for different things students might need. Overall I think i've had a great time and there isn't much I'd change about the environment. I've never noticed more friendly outgoing teachers and administrators. I think we could have more improving on more organized events and understanding of everyone. We should be more open to our students opinions overall at our campus no matter what. I think we need to change the class structures and how the scheduled is put in place out to the students.
They changed the schedule recently and if you have stuff to do afterschool or hate long periods, you wouldn't enjoy the schedule.
Great academics and wonderful campus - well-funded activities and a super spirited environment where anyone can find their place in school.
When I attended Lake Washington High School 2020-2023, It was rough because I spent a part of my freshman and sophomore year in COVID lockdown so I and a lot of students missed out on a full high school experience. While back in in-person learning, it was a bit isolating having lost connections with friends, but the administrators were supportive in helping me decide if University was the right path for me or not. I was guided properly and not discouraged or misguided into not following my dreams although they changed a lot at the time. What i feel they could do better? I can't think of anything, they're a pretty good school and I never had any trouble getting by despite being one of few black students attending.
Overall, it's a decent school. All the teachers I've had are nice and supporting. There's a ton of clubs and sports to choose from, and school events like homecoming and football games are always fun. An issue is cell phones; if the teachers don't have a system where students put away their phones, many are constantly on their phones and don't contribute to group projects, discussions, and don't pay attention to their teachers, and it's a clear problem.
The school is massive, and staff and teachers are really helpful. The overall environment is pretty sanitary.
I transferred here in the middle of my high school career and have found a very positive experience. Very helpful staff, wonderful teachers, and a strong academic community focused on success are all things one can expect to find in this high school in the Kirkland area. The campus is clean and safe, with seldom any problems that interfere with the daily learning environment. The student body is respectful, without any pronounced problems of bullying or discrimination that can be found at other schools. All and all, this is a wonderful choice for any family considering moving to the King County district and wondering where to send their children to high school.
High school was a strange start due to Covid.
We were closed almost my entire freshman year and my sophomore year was not consistent at all.

The teacher and faculty are really caring and supportive. I felt as though my learning was supported. However, the school needs to focus more on college prep for upperclassman as a way to help them transition from high school to college.
The best thing about LW is the connections you make with the students and some of the teachers. The worst thing is that not everyone is nice and so you feel like you are walking on thin ice at school.
Lake Washington has the best track and field coaches. They are kind and caring towards their athletes. It is a school FULL of pride and excitement. I loved the school pride. Seniors make these cute overalls decorated with Lake Washington school pride which they wear to senior sunrise and sporting events! I have been to two high schools but I found these things to be positive and unique to Lake Washington. They are advanced in education, you can feel confidence that you will get a good education from Lake Washington which will prepare a student for college.
I did not love the people, students were not easy to make friends with. I was a transfer my junior year and because its a smaller schools, close friend groups were quite closed off to new comers.
Teachers were for the most part really engaging and kind.

I love LW this is my home, where I made a lot of friends i wanna be connected after school, I recommend this for everyone to go to this school, i love it, and I'll always be a Kang
My experience with Lake Washington has been inspiring and accepting. I have never felt out of place there. At my middle school, I often felt unseen and excluded from the majority. The diversity and inclusion at LW was a huge breath of fresh air for me. I found it extremely easy to find a community within the school, regardless of the massive head count. I wouldn't choose to be anywhere else.
very limited food options- mostly pizza and burgers; the line for actual food is too long for the 30 min break
teachers are also decent, but i've had bad experiences with some who refuse to help students
not much diversity in the student body
