11|Mr. R.I.P.|2:27 (Produced by Don Cannon) 3 - 3.25
12|Body Bag (feat. Cam'ron & Vado)|3:07 (Produced by ARAAB Muzik) 3 - 3.5
13|Lloyd Banks - Beamer, Benz or Bentley (feat. Juelz Santana & Fabolous)|3:55 (Produced by SoundZ) 4 - 4.5
This dude produced the remix to "Love in This Club" and I thought it'd put him on the map. Glad to see him back regardless, this is a throwback 2006 style track, real banger.
14|For the Money (feat. Nicki Minaj)|4:36 (Produced by Mr. Bangladesh) 3.25 - 4
Bangladesh hits Nicki and Fab with a remixed beat, helps the track work but doesn't thump as hard as the original, either. "If you could have Beyoncé, would you take Solange?"
15|Tonight (feat. Red Café)|2:51 (Produced by Jahlil Beats) 3 - 3.5
Such a strange hook. Uncredited female (Nicki?) goes hard.
16|All the Way Turnt Up (feat. Trey Songz)|3:53 (Produced by Vybe Beatz) 2 - 2.5
Crazy unnecessary distortion on his voice here, but I dug the Melo line. A lot.
17|Say Somethin' Nigga|3:30 (Produced by Timbaland) 1.25 - 2
18|Funeral Service Music (feat. Kobe, Paul Cain, Red Café & Willie the Kid|5:10 (Produced by Bink!) 3.5 - 4
19|Bring Death to 'Em|3:12 (Produced by Majik) 3
20|Exhibit F|3:21 (Produced by Just Blaze) 4 - 4.5
An entire mixtape of this is what Fab and his whole class needs. Stop fucking with southern also-ran beats Fab, Jada, etc. Get the best from the east and do your thing.
Overall: 63 - 63.75 3.17/5 63 - 64%: Good; serious flaws; BE WARNED
When Fab impersonates Drake on Birdman's "4 My Town" (It's Goin' Down) he sounds like he'd rather be back at the 40/40, and let's not refer to his turn on "Say Something" ever again, starting now. His version of "Oh Let's Do It" might be the first rendition I've heard that makes the track feel lifeless. Nevermind that Mr. Throw It in the Bag is rapping about how he turns his nose at bitches asking for Christmas early, the song just doesn't work well anyway. And then there's "Hard", a total trainwreck that's exactly what you'd imagine: a punchline rapper and his unintimidating weed carriers rapping for nearly five minutes on a Rihanna backing track. Plus Kobe providing the worst autotuned anything this side of Fab on "Say Something". Damn, I broke my rule.
Things aren't all bad, though. When Fab gets out of the tinny, hollow Young Money style production that haunts the first half of the tape and steps to stuff like "Love Come Down" and "Popular Demand" Fab starts to sound a little more invigorated and, more importantly, at home. And the late highlight "Funeral Service Music" is one of Fab's few inspired production choices, picking up a Deeper Than Rap castaway that gets a little breathing room here. Unfortunately, at these points Fab doesn't seem too concerned with flexing his own muscles, and you'll notice him biting the flow of the rapper that originally made the track often enough elsewhere it gets a little frustrating. And when Fab reaches back in time it's odd. For example, he employs the already played out mixtape beat "Weather Man" by Jim Jones. It's a choice as uninspired as "Oh Let's Do It", a concession to the mixtape market a rapper like Fab doesn't need to make.
Ultimately, Funeral Service succeeds in that it proves Fab still has punchlines, is still perhaps the ultimate pop culture rapper and still listens to the radio/knows what's hot. But Funeral Service also seems eager to prove Fab is mostly out of ideas, a fully formed product of consumer culture rather than artist. I just don't see or hear the heart anymore, it's all cash registers. The lynch for me is when he takes on Jeezy's "Mr. 17.5" just like Curren$y did on his recent mixtape, and I just can't get into it at all. Fab's clever, but he seems played out. It's hard to take him seriously as a comedian when he's fronting like a gangster, gold digging in the south instead of building for New York. I'm not sure what to expect from Fabolous besides bars and bars, jokes 'n' jokes and spaghetti, spaghetti. It works for a mixtape like this, but says nothing about his ability to write a song or layout an album front to back.
And Drama's still a corny motherfucker.
[Note: A few days later, Funeral Service was released in No DJ format. Normally I'm fine with DJ edits, but in this instance, the improved mastering and lack of Drama allows me to hear Funeral Service more like fans of Fabolous do. This could now be my favorite Fab release, but I'm leaving the old review for now to point out how dramatic a change DJs can make on these mixtapes.

An Improvement Over His Weedplate Album
It's slightly better than his 2009 album but still far from anything that can be taken seriously. The punchlines still lack, well, a punch. The project is his best produced collection of music in a long ass time, and maybe ever the more I think about it. It's plagued by it's length, another NYC rapper album characteristic, but can be tolerated. Fabolous still hasn't proved anything to me and his formula when approaching music is just too predictable.Published
IDC if hes a part of your crew dont let freck billionaire touch the mic

I never listened to Fabolous, not even a single. His name just made him sound wack to me, however lame that sounds. this dude has MAD punchlines though.

"I'm raw dog, y'all safe sex
You dicks belong in latex, not tape decks"
Pretty cool for the endless punchlines that are all delivered in the same weird flat-voiced delivery, but I would like to request a moratorium on rapping over "All The Way Turnt Up", "O Lets Do It" or "Exhibit C". In the latter's case, your version isn't going to compare to Jay Elec's no matter what, and the other two were played out 3 weeks after the instrumentals leaked. Anyway, Fab has been responsible for some of my least favorite rap music ever recorded, but here he reveals himself to be a decent rapper that can at least craft a mixtape that is entertaining the whole way through. Most of the beats (both originals and recent "hot in the streetzzz" instrumentals) suck, but hey, I can't blame a dude for playing to his audience.

I just can't get with all the corny-punchline, braggadocio mixtape rappers. Fab, Cass, Pap. Fuck anyone with a soft "a" sound in their name really.
