I really appreciate CCA for the academic growth and achievement it has fostered within me. However, if I were to give my honest recommendations to prospective freshmen, I would advise them to stay from the cliquey, depressing, and selfish environment encapsulated end after end at CCA. It truly feels like everyone is here simply to bust through as many AP classes as possible; in addition, few teachers seem to throughly understand the pressure and demands of being a student here, assigning excessive homework and overall lacking in content and effort. We will take a test once administered by AP exams but graded on the school curve. This is disheartening to everyone who goes here and ruins much of the hope and light students used to have. Again, there is much I have to thank and am grateful for from this school, however, it is necessary to seriously review all aspects of CCA before fully committing.
I did not realize just how much a high school culture could shape my life. At CCA, known for "its okay to be weird", the overall environment is supportive and structured. The teachers (most teachers) are inspirational and experienced. They know how much stress is placed on students in this day and age, and they are very good about making sure their students are caring for their well being, not just getting good grades. I realize that going to CCA was a good thing for me, and that certain aspects of high school that people often see displayed on TV and movies, like football teams and major drama, are definitely not a thing at CCA. Everyone seems to be marching to the same tune and knows just how much everyone wants to succeed. The changes I would like to see are more diversity with the teachers and students. Being an African American female, I feel alone at times in what I am going through. Not many people can relate which makes it tough. But ultimately I am grateful for CCA!
My overall experience at the Canyon Crest Academy is great. I feel academically prepared for college through the various academic programs offered at the Canyon Crest Academy. The staff and teachers are all professional and well qualified. The arts and music programs are especially great and upstanding.
