TITANS ACE THE CHASE, TOP THE TABLE!

A terrific display of finishing skills from Miller and a matured innings from Sai Sudharsan got Gujarat home in the 19th over, despite a fairly tight bowling display from the Delhi Capitals. The Gujarat Titans now top the table with two wins in two matches!

Overs 16-20

David Miller -- 2 sixes and a four to cream a total of 20 runs off a Mukesh Kumar over, and that over has made the difference! The equation is now 26 off 24, just over a run-a-ball, and it looks like Miller is going to make short work of this target! And with the carnage on at the other end, Sai Sudharsan has played a knock beyond his years, and gets to his fifty by upper-cutting Nortje for four -- and then he cut loose, playing a pick-up pull shot and depositing Nortje over fine leg for six!

Sudharsan has scored 24 off 12 against Nortje today, at a strike-rate of 200, with 2 sixes and a four!

Overs 11-15

Gujarat Titans 117-4

The next 20 balls yielded just 24 balls, and the two batters were struggling to time the ball. And then, a wicket came in the form of a boon -- Mitchell Marsh trapped Vijay Shankar LBW and opened the door for more seasoned finishers -- David Miller, with 56 runs required off 40 balls. 34 came off the five overs, leaving 46 to win in 30 balls, the stage set for Miller and potentially Tewatia if another wicket falls.

Overs 7-10:

Gujarat Titans 83-3

As the inexperienced duo of Sai Sudarshan and Vijay Shankar attempt to rescue the run-chase, the run-rate takes a hit. A few good overs from Mukesh Kumar, Mitchell Marsh and Kuldeep Yadav have kept the Titans at bay, conceding only 29 runs in the fours overs after the powerplay. The Titans are just above the required rate at the half-way mark.

Vijay Shankar comes in as the impact player for Gujarat Titans!

Who is he replacing, you ask? Josh Little, the Irish pacer.

Powerplay (Overs 1-6):

Gujarat Titans 54-3

Saha welcomed Khaleel with a couple of fours and a six in the first over, picking 14 from it. Shubman Gill started off with a couple of boundaries off Mukesh Kumar too, and the Titans were on their way, well up to speed with the required rate. It took a Nortje corker, his first ball, to knock Saha over for 14 before Gill had his stumps rattled too! There was a ridiculous scoop for six by Sai Sudarshan off Nortje and Gujarat, despite the loss of the openers, and of Pandya off the last ball of the powerplay courtesy a SEED from Khaleel, managed to score at nearly 9 runs an over!

Impact Player (DC): Delhi substitute Sarfaraz Khan with Khaleel Ahmed. Abhishel Porel will keep wickets instead of Sarfaraz, and Khaleel Ahmed will open the bowling!

INNINGS BREAK!

Overs 16-20:

Delhi Capitals 162-8 (20 overs)

Against a seasoned bowling line-up, the rookie lower/middle order of the Capitals did a commendable job, led by Axar Patel. They did lose a few wickets, including Sarfaraz Khan, Aman Khan, and Axar Patel, but the last 5 overs yielded 41 runs and the Capitals ended up with the lowest score this IPL, but certainly a competitive total to bowl at. In fact it was really Axar's 22-ball 36 that lifted the Capitals in the end.

Overs 11-15:

Delhi Capitals 121-5

Sarfaraz Khan and the official Pant-replacement Abhishek Porel have attempted to stabilised the innings, and have done a commendable job after the linchpins were back in the hut in the first 10 overs. However, Rashid Khan was too much to handle for Porel, who charged and lost his stumps. However, Axar and Sarfaraz have kept the scoreboard ticking to set it up for the death. 43 runs in this window of play, for the loss of one wicket.

STOP THE PRESSES: Rishabh Pant has been spotted at the Kotla!

Overs 7-10:

Delhi Capitals78-4

Just as the Daredevils were starting to gain some momentum, perhaps on the way to a recovery, an inspired spell from Alzarri Joseph, had David Warner chopping on, and he was on a hat-trick when Rossouw was dismissed the very next ball, courtesy a screamer of a catch by Rahul Tewatia! He nearly got a hat-trick too, but the ball fell short of Vijay Shankar at short midwicket! That's well and truly put a stopper to the DC innings!

POWERPLAY (Overs 1-6):

Delhi Capitals52-2

There was drama, the bails not lighting up off a Shami delivery et al. And it could've been a false start like the other day, when Wood tore the Capitals apart. Turned out, history did in fact repeat itself, as Prithvi Shaw chipped one to mid-on off Shami in a bid to up the ante and take advantage of the powerplay. Mitchell Marsh followed soon after, knocked over for the second time in a row, as Shami reaped the rewards despite some inconsistent bowling. However, they've got 52 in the powerplay, which is commendable, for the loss of just two wickets.

The stubborn bails!

Shami may have bowled two wides, but he got one to nick the stumps so faintly that the bails didn't even light up, let alone fall! He's almost got Warner to inside edge to the keeper too! What a start!

Delhi Capitals News:Abhishek Porel to debut for Delhi Capitals!Anrich Nortje is also in the playing XI,as is Aman Khan. They replace Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakaria and Rovman Powell!

TOSS:Hardik Pandya, the Gujarat Titans skipper has won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sai Sudarshan has come in for Vijay Shankar and David Miller returns for the injured Kane Williamson.

Protea power returns to boost both sides

Nevertheless, the two teams are a lot closer than anticipated. Delhi, who have a host of incredible overseas picks, might even pip the Titans on potential, given Warner, Marsh and Rossouw in their line-up -- not to mention the firepower they possess now that Anrich Nortje (and Lungi Ngidi, who is unlikely to make the XI) has returned.

As for the Titans, they'll carry their confidence from their first game, and perhaps try to tighten up their bowling, for as comfortable as the win was, it wasn't quite a clean cut, with a faltering batting line-up rescued once again by Rahul Tewatia. The Titans too will be bolstered by the arrival of David Miller, so with both sides receiving a Protea boost, it's time to turn up the heat!

An apparent mismatch, but not quite

It's not as much of a mismatch as you might think.

On the surface, it's the team just shy of holding the wooden spoon after a hapless surrender in their opening game, up against the precocious sons of the IPL, the defending champions, Gujarat Titans. Granted, Delhi have their flaws, which were laid bare on that fateful night in Lucknow, where Mark Wood absolutely dismantled Capitals' line-up with sheer pace. Gujarat, fresh from their win at home against the league's perpetual outliers, the Chennai Super Kings, haven't faced an alarming low in the league -- yet.
