Beautiful black and white photography located in the atmospheric streets of Paris. The crime story is kinda basic but the surrealistic and romantic aspects do spice it up. The two leads, especially Rie Rasmussen, steal the show, it’s only a bummer the ending gets a bit too predictable and theatrical. Overall its a stylish and pretty entertaining movie by Luc Besson. The mirror scene is absolutely phenomenal.
I have no idea how to review this one. It's weird, trippy, and surreal, the way the French does it best. It's colourless (all black and white), yet full of wonderful contrasts. It contains some AMAZING actors, really great performances, especially that of Rie Rasmussen. Stunning. Of course it doesn't make things worse that she looks sexy as hell as well.
The only thing I really have against it is the love story. It feels a little forced. But great film overall. I'd really recommend watching it if you haven't already.
Fell in love with this movie so hard. Every part of it was a home run. One of those movie that speaks to you because you watched it at the perfect time. Angel-A is hilarious and sentimental. It tugs at even the coldest of heart strings. Feel good without ever becoming saccharine. Whimsical yet so real. Having someone that drops into your life like an actual angel sounds so cliche to those that haven’t experienced it. When you do your life will never be the same. André, the main character, feels like he’s born a loser, with his life experience further providing evidence to that notion. The critical scene where he finally comes around to the goodness in him comes…
Look in the mirror... what do you see?
I see.. a wonderful girl
Thank you. And Next to her? What do you see?
I don't know.
Good. You're improving.
You think so?
Yes. All you used to see was a pile of crap
The second time this year 👌
For me watching films is not like oh this film looks good am gonna watch it and never see it again (sometimes maybe) watching films is like a spiritual process when I search for movies that I wanna see forever and never ever get tired of watching them.
And simply Angel-a is one of them, and what an underrated movie, I can't believe that this film is not in greatest films ever made lists
Goddamn I love Jamel Debbouze.
Wish I was good in writing about movies to talk more about this masterpiece.
Highly recommend
10/10
A wonderfully sentimental and sweet human drama with stunning b&w cinematography that shows off the streets of Paris really nicely. Besson subs out the action in this one for a healthy serving of magical realism that surprisingly sits somewhere between Wings of Desire and a Richard Curtis movie, but in a true French Arthouse kind of way. It would not feel out of place in the Criterion Collection.
I didn't think I would be on the verge of tears by the end of this movie yet I totally was. It totally hinges on the central performance of Rie Rasmussen (Angela) in the beginning, as she becomes a sort of "life coach" for sad boy Andre. As the film progresses, however,…
El inicio me atrapó y el cómo desarrolla su historia y es un viaje de "auto descubrimiento" es tratado de una manera increíble. Y aunque no creo que sea perfecta, la escena del espejo es una de las cosas más bellas que he visto en mucho tiempo :')
Angel-A is a flight of fantasy, a whimsical tale of redemption and romance, played out on the majestical streets of Paris.
The story centres around the character of André, a small time con who finds himself at rock bottom. Having borrowed money from every murky underworld figure, his line of credit has now dried up, and he needs to find a solution fast.
With no way out, André finds himself clinging to the edge of a bridge, about to jump, until he turns to see a mysterious woman about to do the very same thing.
Desperately he tries to persuade her otherwise, but in she goes, and moments later André dives in after her, dragging her body from the Seine…
"Diga ao seu corpo que ele é importante, que o lugar dele é aqui. Dê a ele o que ele merece."
Um filme muito sensível com uma filmagem impecável.
It's hard to love yourself when nobody reflects that.
Es difícil amarse a sí mismo cuando nadie refleja eso.
I recently revisited Luc Besson's French 🇫🇷 classic, Angel-A (2005), on Tubi. The storyline follows a struggling scammer who encounters a beautiful woman in the act of suicide. After saving her, she becomes his guardian angel, attempting to alter his luck and perspective on life, though he resists her help.
As previously mentioned, this gem is both written and directed by the iconic Luc Besson (Leon: The Professional) and features Rie Rasmussen (Femme Fatale), Jamel Debbouze (Amelie), Gilbert Melki (The Pimp), and Franck-Olivier Bonnet (Amelie).
This film unfolds as a unique character piece and abstract love story, featuring excellent performances. Rie Rasmussen's is gorgeous in a tall, skinny, European model kind of way. Hernandez captivating presence adds intrigue to each…
