Cynthia E. Hamilton
Jaffrey, NH - Cynthia E. Hamilton, 92, a lifelong resident of Jaffrey, NH, passed away at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
Cynthia was born in Peterborough, NH, on May 4, 1931, daughter of the late Don A. and Georgia M. (Lynch) Eaves. She attended Conant High School and graduated in 1949. After this she would go on to attend Bates College where she achieved her BA in History, and then attended graduate school at Simmons University. Cynthia spent her entire career working as a librarian in a variety of locations. This included Portland, Oregon City Library, Los Angeles City Library, the New Hampshire State Libraries in both Keene and Concord, and she retired in 1996 from the Jaffrey Public Library.
Cynthia was a lifelong scholar. Most of her free time was spent reading and enjoying history, and gardening being another favorite pastime. She was a life member and had served as deacon of the United Church of Jaffrey, where she also held numerous other roles as well. She had also belonged to the Jaffrey Historical Society, Friends of the Library, the Jaffrey Women's Club, and the New Hampshire Library Association.
Cynthia is predeceased by her husband, Arthur H. Hamilton.
She is survived by her niece, Jane Ojala Stone of Munsonville, NH, and 4 nephews and their families, Eric Ojala, Ben Ojala, Nathan Ojala and Andrew Ojala, as well as several cousins and many good friends.
At Cynthia's request, there will be no calling hours.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the United Church of Jaffrey, 54 Main Street, Jaffrey.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Jaffrey, or to the Jaffrey Public Library, 38 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452.

Cynthia will always be for me the epitome of the modern woman. Her love of learning, adventure, tenacity, and true compassion for the human race made her company delightful. She will always live in my heart, as I try to follow her example.
