- Johnny JBaltimore, MD1,006 contributionsWas exploring a number of iron furnace sites in the area with friends. This one was very good. Nice hiking trails, very good exhibits in the museum, and knowledgeable, engaging staff. Lots of good literature too. Glad it was open when we visited. Clean restrooms. A number of old buildings to see and furnace ruins and artifacts. Scenic pond.Written May 2, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - billybelcaroOak Ridge, NJ37 contributionsMy family returns to this lite hike repeatedly for its compact but assorted beauty. We usually only need bring a water bottle. After the recent rainy weeks there are amazingly huge mushrooms galore, often as many as 7 varieties growing within 100 square feet.
This park is fenced and gated to keep deer out. As you will learn from a few posts on the trail, deer have overpopulated NJ by tenfold the historic numbers and the fauna has changed as a result. Here you can enjoy deer-free fauna and a well marked and maintained trail.
Yes, there was a bear attack back in 2014, but rest assured that was a freak occurrence and the only fatal attack on record in all of NJ, *ever*. At the time it was reported there was another incident back in the 1800s but a journalist revealed the record was in error and that fatality happened in NV, not NJ. Don't let one rare instance impede your ability to check out this awesome area.
If you enter from parking lot off Macopin Road there is a hike board that often has maps in its cubbies, and also check out the cool solar powered compactor garbage and recycling cans.Written August 16, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are a few steep spots but they are not that steep if you recreationally hike fairly often. There are some nice lake, stream, and mountain views. You can see the NYC skyline from one spot if it's clear enough. You can hike a loop so you don't have to retrace your steps. Overall the trail is well marked. There are various parking areas that you can start from. If you park on Warwick Turnpike, there are not many parking spots.Written March 30, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RKinderganHewitt, NJ33 contributionsI got an intro flight as a gift a number of years back for my husband. He liked it so much that he continued flying lessons and became a pilot. The instructors have changed through the years, but have always been good teachers who love to expand their hobby to people who are interested in learning. I highly recommend an Intro flight as a gift for yourself or someone else - even if you don't continue, it's a great experience that not many people get to have. The annual airshow is also a lot of funWritten October 27, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
