I am a student at Early College High School in Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District. Early College is an amazing experience, as it allows 100 students per grade level to take their high school classes on the Solano Community College Campus and take college classes as electives. Students can take whatever college classes interest them, and earn units that can be used in college. Many students graduate high school with associate degrees. The community at Early College is excellent and supportive. Due to the self-selective nature of the school, there are few concerns about misbehavior. Everyone is focused and wants to be here.
The best part would have to be the connections and friendships I have had the ability to make. The change I would like to see is more opportunities for higher education. By that, I mean that many high school students don't know the opportunities they could have because none of them are presented to them. There is a lack of accessibility in the knowledge that students are getting.
Within my experience of Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District I've gone through a few schools and all had different experiences and different resources. Overall I believe they can improve with creating more resources for students having trouble in school and keep an open mind. But all keep beliefs to oneself it is seen for many students at a young age going on to gender and sexuality and I believe at that age it is confusing and would lead to a troubling future. To help these students keep resources open but don't pressure students and make a place a safe space.
