Harry Worth starred as Mr Harry Beddington, piano teacher and leader of the local brass band in the idyllic village of Nettlebridge. But rather than worrying about village fetes and the various maladies afflicting members of the band, Harry was more concerned with the imminent building of an airport in Nettlebridge.
Rallying his band members together, Harry formed the Anti Airport Committee and episodes found the band trying to get in the Guinness Book of Records by playing at 1,000 feet in the air (in hot air balloons), trying to produce a record for playing on Terry Wogan’s morning radio programme, and promoting the discovery of a holy well in order to drive the airport away.
The cast band members were bulked out by the real-life Aldershot Brass Ensemble.
So utterly inept and banal was the show that had it not been written by comedy stalwarts Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft, it likely would have never been screened.
