Our ship Seabourn Quest was fortunate to have an opportunity to dock here while exploring Bordeaux. Next to the cruise ship docking area is the Quai de Louis XVIII and across the street is the Esplanade des Quinconces where the monument to the Girondins (those royals who were unceremoniously deprived of their heads during the French Revolution) is located. Because this docking port is on the river (which is subject to drastic tidal highs and lows), it can be tricky getting off a ship as the "plank" ramp needs to be continually adjusted or the ship needs to wait for the water level to hit the right pitch so as not to injure passengers (as happened on our trip to one of the travelers). We found the location to be very convenient to get to the sights we wanted to visit in Bordeaux and it was extremely walkable. This particular trip to Bordeaux we focused on the historic aspects of the Old Town area which are steeped in Medieval character.

This is a lovely area, with some very photogenic buildings, lovely architecture and full of history, well worth a visit.
