Our ship Seabourn Quest was fortunate to have an opportunity to dock here while exploring Bordeaux. Next to the cruise ship docking area is the Quai de Louis XVIII and across the street is the Esplanade des Quinconces where the monument to the Girondins (those royals who were unceremoniously deprived of their heads during the French Revolution) is located.

Because this docking port is on the river (which is subject to drastic tidal highs and lows), it can be tricky getting off a ship as the "plank" ramp needs to be continually adjusted or the ship needs to wait for the water level to hit the right pitch so as not to injure passengers (as happened on our trip to one of the travelers).

We found the location to be very convenient to get to the sights we wanted to visit in Bordeaux and it was extremely walkable. This particular trip to Bordeaux we focused on the historic aspects of the Old Town area which are steeped in Medieval character.

I visited Bordeaux for the first time more than 15 years ago. At this time the whole city was black and dirtý and especially the area along the Garonne was very run down. I do not know of any other city that has undergone such an amazing renewal and restoration process as Bordeaux. The Port of the Moon must now be one of the most beautiful river areas in the world with beautifully restored buildings and new parks and recreational areas.

Large open space with a large pool/fountain surrounded by good restaurants. Perfect for watching the world go by.

The old area of Bordeaux is port of the moon and is it is the a world heritage site. Bordeaux has c 347 listed buildings under a law of 1913. The port of the moon encompasses the old town and this area is undoubtedly why so many visitors come to see Bordeaux.
We had not expected the scale, beauty or functionality of the old area- it has been so well managed and protected and is a credit to those who have managed to do so.
The river front is a fantastic asset. While we were there, it was the end of he Bordeaux wine festival and despite sectioned-off areas the water area was still wide, boulevard-style, with cafes and restaurants further down. The grass lined tramways are a lovely site. We saw birds of prey over the river and a sight I have never seen, one with prey in its talons, eating and flying at the same time.
The Borse, Miroir d'eau and the old town is a wonderful place to visit. There are many old buildings to see as you walk around- would definitely return.

Unless you know it's there, or cross towards the river from Place de la Bourse you could miss this wonderful sight! And if you're enjoying a stroll along the Quai admiring the river and don't go up the steps to the "Miroir d'eau" you will also miss out. There are SO many beautiful things to see in Bordeaux and this is one of them! Dont miss it.

Along the waterfront the current mayor has made some significant changes, with wide open spaces, a boulevard and great water feature, the miroir d'eau. Go and have a stroll, it's beautiful. Bordeaux lacks greenery, so the gardens along the waterfront are a sight for sore eyes! They're a great spot for an evening picnic.

Not in a great neighborhood, we walked there from the hotel and the area was a bit seedy. We really liked this place, food was good, prices were reasonable, did not seem touristy, looked like we were the only foreigners. Not posh and seemed authentic. Staff were friendly. Good value, would go back.

The almost new or not so old ship... has done his last stop in port de la lune in Bordeaux. The european crisis has lead to discommision ships like this to restrict army expenses. What a petty that we do not see this kind of event more often...

The Port of the Moon is an amazing piece of architecture in the heart of Bordeaux, the building has been restored well.
