- Rimi RLondon, England, United Kingdom1 contributionEveryone from our family who came to Gaya in last Our family in last 50+ years, stayed in Bharat Sevashram Sangha for pind daan. As far as we know this is the safest place in Gaya for this purpose. You'll find their office at the railway station, go to the office, they'll only arrange for an auto to come to main ashram. Autos charge Rs 25/ person. You don't have to make any prior room booking.
From Bharat Sevashram Sangha a pandit will be arranged for rituals. He will accompany you throughout. He didn't demand any particular amount from us but it's better if you carry a dhoti or saree or gamchha for the pandit.
Pind daan is done in 3 places and make sure to keep plenty of Rs 10/20/50 changes.
As most of us may be aware that the worst part of your entire Gaya experience could be the pandas. True to their nature in every single place we went for the rituals they aggressively demanded money from us, going to the extent of threatening us that the panda (much younger than I am) would not bless us for the amount we were offering and the relative we performed the rituals for, would be be unhappy wherever he is. We, however, stood our ground and told them even if they chose not to bless us and the soul is unhappy because we can't afford the amount the pandas are demanding we still can't help it and won't pay that much. After a lot of argument we finally paid Rs 200/-. We had to bargain at every corner at the 3 places we had to perform rituals & quite frankly felt disgusted because all of us go there because we lost someone close to our heart.
The ashram issues food coupon for lunch on that day. So after you're back you can have lunch at the ashram. Our Pandit Sripada Mishra (selected by the Ashram) was very good, we were very happy with his work.
So in a nutshell, if you're going to Gaya for pind daan be prepare to resist the pandas' aggressive demands.
And, I absolutely recommend people seeking guidance from Bharat Sevashram Sangha for pind daan. They are the most genuine ones in Gaya.Written 9 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My only problem with the temple is that when we arrived at the site, the doors where Vishnu's footprint was displayed were shut which meant that we couldn't see it. But apart from that, it was a nice temple to see and it is a sacred place for Hindu's to perform the last rites of deceased relatives/loved ones.Written 9 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Vinayak SharmaNew Delhi, India91 contributionsYou can reach gaya by flight or train. Avoid going in sharad or pitra pakha because of rush. Depending upon the type of deaths in family puja is recommended i.e. 1 day, 3 days or 11 days. Most opt for a single-day puja. Be careful. Everything is negotiable there. The single-day puja process takes around 2-3hrs. Women can perform puja as well. Pl. go with family or friends but not solo for physical, mental and moral support. You can visit bodhgaya as it's 8- 10km from Gaya.Written 20 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - kapilNoida, India1 contributionPandit Gautam is the trustworthy and reliable person. His number is 9234270031. I find his details from tripadvisor. I went there in September 2023. You do not need to worry about anything. You can discuss the type of puja/pind daan and its financial details. You need to pay that amount only to him. Pandit g will do the arrangement of Stay also. One person will come to pick you from the station/Airport.
One suggestion is to bring the ten rupees notes that you need to pay at various places. Before you start from home, you need to invite the pitra and bring some saaman. I called pandit g and do all things told by him. It was organised and wellWritten 1 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's called so because it's also a shrine to goddess dungeshwari.
One has to climb the hill for at least thirty minutes. Beware of the monkeys lining the path. There are also lots of beggars including children, whose income might be hit badly due to lack of tourists in covid.
On the top, there are Tibetan buildings including a white stupa.
The cave entrance is quite narrow but it widens up inside. One can meditate inside the cave for a short while. The atmosphere is very peaceful inside. Outside however might have some noisy tourists and kids.
The view from the top of the hill is amazing..
The path to dungeshwari is not good, a new road from across falgu or nirajana river is being constructed. The other roundabout path is from Gaya city.Written 1 January 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sandy_JSRJamshedpur, India1,972 contributionsThe Falgu is a sacred river for Hindus, first pind daan is performed at the bank of Falgu river. Vishnupad Mandir is situated on the bank of Phalgu river, it is also called Niranjana river. However, the river is mostly dried up and only sand bed can be visible. There is an interesting story related to Falgu river, which says that Sita had cursed the Falgu River and on account of this curse, the Falgu lost its water, and the river is simply a vast stretch of sand dunes.Written 10 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
