This is every bit as good as The Expendables, if not better. Seeing how Stallone almost killed himself to make the movie is inspiring. Much respect for that man.
NOT AN EXPENDABLE DOC
When I saw this feature length documentary about Sylvester Stallone directing THE EXPENDABLES for the first time I was about to shoot my first action movie and I remember that I thought it's one of the best contemporary behind the scenes documentaries out there.
A couple films later I revisited it and you know what? It's even more impressive and fascinating watching it now as an "oh THAT'S the way HE did it (and almost got himself killed in the process)" experience.
I'm going on record calling this one of the best contemporary docs about making movies from a director's POV. I'm sure I haven't watched it the last time. Could've been even longer for me.
Very extensive look into the making of this huge passion project of Sly Stallone's. Great for anyone who loves a look behind the scenes of movies.
I know that the scholars likely won't be writing much about The Expendables movies, but there is a lot of merit to obtain from Inferno, the feature length making of doc on the first film in the series. You can tell that Stallone really gave it his all while directing, writing, and starring in The Expendables. His exhaustion and tiredness comes off full force here. While you may not agree that he made a great product, that man did not give up and truly pushed his body to the limit making this movie.
Interesting making of The Expendables film which assembles several renowned action film stars, Inferno features good interviews with the cast and crew and why and how the film came to be. The Expendables managed to be a fun action film that assembled icons of the genre, and Inferno is a well made making of documentary on the film.
It's short, but a fun watch if you're interested in how the film was made. Inferno is no different from other making ofs, it's straight to the point and features interviews with the cast and crew that were involved in the film.
A little documentary about Sly's terrible luck during the making of the first "Expendables" is fun, but rarely cohesive. It lacks a lot of focus and structure for it to work. It's more of a fan bonus than anything else.
What behind the scenes documentaries should be. informative, entertaining and really showing you the real deal. And with someone like Silvester Stalone, who first of all has so much experience in every part of film making and who second of all is extremely passionate about his work. Good man, good documentary and not only for Expendables fans.
