This Weekend, second collection for the Maintenance of St George’s Cathedral, Southwark.

For over half a century, St George’s Cathedral has been the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Southwark, home to 175 parishes and over 50,000 Roman Catholics.

The Cathedral frequently hosts important Diocesan and national celebrations, as well as concerts and events for various Catholic charities. In many respects, St George’s Cathedral serves as a spiritual home and ‘beehive’ for Catholic evangelisation and mission across the Archdiocese of Southwark. St George’s Cathedral is entirely reliant upon the generosity of its parishioners, volunteers and the Archdiocese of Southwark to keep its doors open. It does not receive Vatican or government funding, nor has an endowment to rely on.

Your support can enable the Cathedral to remain open daily to those seeking a place of peace, prayer and worship. Thank you!

• Donate Online: www.rcaos.org.uk/Cathedral

• Telephone weekdays 9 am – 5 pm: 020 7960 2504

• Cash / Cheque – please use the St George’s Cathedral envelopes at the back of church.

Christian Aid Week

This year Christian Aid Week runs from 12th to 18th May with the theme of “Pushing back against Poverty.”

People living on the brink of survival can only dream of providing meals for their children, sending them to school and having a small regular income. Such is life for the families living in Burundi. You can donate via caid.org.uk or via the Parish 2nd collection.

Annual Mass for London Migrant Workers in honour of St Joseph the Worker: Monday 6th May 24 at St George’s Cathedral, 12.30pm.

All are invited.  Please come early. You are welcome to come in national dress if you would like to take part in the banner procession at 12.15pm. The Mass is hosted by the three London Catholic Diocese, supported by the Justice and Peace Commissions and Ethnic Chaplaincies, Caritas Brentwood and London Citizens UK. in celebration of all the people who live, work and contribute to life across our city.

A Year of Encounter

With a UK general election due sometime this year, politicians will be looking for our votes. We have a responsibility as Catholics to make sure that parties commit to tackling issues such as poverty and injustice. Raising our voices and contacting parliamentary candidates as a parish community will send a strong signal to those standing for election in our local constituencies. A Year of Encounter is a joint initiative between CAFOD and St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), equipping Catholics to ask key questions of local candidates at the key moments. Please see cafod.org.uk/encounter for more information, including online sessions and Saturday 4th May to learn more.

This Weekend, second collection for the Priest Training Fund.

Next Weekend, second collection for the Maintenance of St George’s Cathedral, Southwark.

For over half a century, St George’s Cathedral has been the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Southwark, home to 175 parishes and over 50,000 Roman Catholics. For many Catholics living and working across London and the South East of England, St George’s has been a beacon of light.

Today, St George’s Cathedral continues to attract thousands of worshippers and visitors each year, as well as serving a lively local parish community which proudly reflects the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of South London. The Cathedral frequently hosts important Diocesan and national celebrations, as well as concerts and events for various Catholic charities. There is a rich musical tradition, maintaining a choir of boys and men, as well as a girls’ choir, both of which sing at Sunday Masses and on major feasts.

Thank you!

• Telephone weekdays 9 am – 5 pm: 020 7960 2504

Next Weekend second collection for the Priest Training Fund

The priesthood has always been essential to the life of the Church, from the time of Jesus until today. Good Shepherd Sunday is the day we pray for vocations, for our priests, and take up the Priest Training Fund second collection. This fund pays for the formation of men to become priests in our Archdiocese.

After their ordination, our priests dedicate their lives to serving Christ and His people in our parishes, hospitals, schools, chaplaincies, prisons and in service to the needy, throughout South London, Kent and Surrey. We are blessed to have 5 men in formation to the Priesthood for our Archdiocese. However, it costs £30,000 a year to sponsor each seminarian. They study for 6 years before being ordained a Catholic priest.

We therefore rely on your generous support and prayers. Please support our priests of the future with a gift today.

Thank you!

During 2023 Holy Cross Parish raised £2783.22p for World Mission which is the highest amount for many years. This shows your generosity in giving and supporting Missio and it’s work throughout the World. Missionary priests go out to some of the most remote areas of their parishes to share the Sacraments and the message of the Gospel with their communities. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Services- 7th April

2pm- St Margaret Of Scotland Church – Carshalton Beeches

3pm- St Elphege’s Church – Wallington

Three places in her Diary, St. Faustina records our Lord’s promises of specific, extraordinary graces:

I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My mercy (1109).

Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment (300).

The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion will obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment (699).

To receive these graces, the only condition is to receive Holy Communion worthily on Divine Mercy Sunday (or the Vigil celebration) by making a good confession beforehand and staying in the state of grace and trusting in His Divine Mercy.
