Fed up with her present lifestyle, and more particularly sexually unsatisfied by her boyfriend Fred, Sandrine decides to find a new way in life. Intrigued by her friend Sophie, who tells her about her sexual experimentations, she will find, through various encounters, new pleasures and new experiences, whether physical or spiritual.

Qualquer ambiguidade ou sugestão mística dos filmes anteriores se transforma aqui em uma vocação muito concreta, em uma consequência que parte de uma relação imaterial, mas é absolutamente física nas suas manifestações. O corpo não é mais o mediador, mas se transforma no objeto mesmo dessas pulsões fantásticas, transcende a sua ordem carnal e, através do sexo, da pornografia mesmo (é talvez o mais explícito de todos), se coloca nesse lugar sem qualquer conciliador. O que fica é puro enigma. Mistério pelo mistério onde amor e sexo, vida e morte, não são mais possibilidades antagônicas, mas partes de uma mesma assimilação existencial.

Despite some sexually explicit scenes, it's a film that works more with philosophical pleasure rather than sexual. Jean-Claude Brisseau, the controversial director paints some gorgeous compositions with the camera, using his usual palette of brown and cold colours to show us the characters at their most vulnerable and introspective.
Reminded me of Fight Club.

A taxi driver on a park bench blows your mind with some 101 physics and philosophy truth bombs; meanwhile a woman experiments with sex and hypnosis in search of the ultimate orgasm. It's all very creepy old man fantasy, par for the course for Brisseau, which isn't to say it's not enjoyable in parts. Also it used a slowed down version of the Godfather theme a lot for some reason.

In the hands of director Jean-Claude Brisseau, the latter is given the most explicit treatment. À l’aventure is intended clearly to provoke, though what exactly wavers in and out focus. Sandrine is bored with life and her unimaginative boyfriend, so sets off on an adventure to discover the ultimate orgasm, whether her own or another woman’s. Along the way, she meets a chatty taxi driver, whose impromptu seminars on the wonders of the universe becalm her troubled psyche. Physics, hypnosis, religion, mysticism, explicit sex, all are a means for the director's self-indulgent masturbation over his freedom. There are some great thoughts and beautiful actors to boast in here but never rises up more than a frustrated outcry towards regressions that never feels genuine.
