Haikou Meilan International Airport (IATA: HAK, Chinese Name: 海口美兰国际机场) is located 19km southeast of Haikou downtown. It was officially put into service on May 25, 1999. The Phase I Expansion Project was done in 2016, the Phase II Expansion Project was done and Terminal 2 was officially put into operation in Dec 2021.

Haikou Meilan International Airport overs an area of 1140 hectares, with station site area of 1250.2 thousand square meters and 139 aircraft parking stands. It has two terminals, T1 and T2. It is targeted that Meilan Airport can achieve an annual passenger throughput of 35 million person trips and annual cargo throughput of 400,000 tons by 2025.

Terminal 1 mainly serves domestic flights, except Hainan Airlines, China Southern Airlines. It covers an area of nearly 150 thousand square meters. Phase I contains 67 operating aircraft stands, and is rated as Grade 4E with 3600meter-long and 45meter-wide runways, which can satisfy the demands of full-weight taking-off and landing of such large airplanes as Boeing 747-400.

Terminal 2 is located 1km north of Terminal 1. T2 mainly serves International flights, domestic flights of Hainan Airlines and China Southern Airlines. It covers an area of nearly 300 thousand square meters, has 5 check-in islands with 110 check-in counter. Phase II contains 72 operating aircraft stands and is designed to rate as Grade 4F. The second runway is 3600meter-long and 60meter-wide, which can take off and land the A380, the largest civil aircraft in the world.
