Jamie Robert Cook (born 8 July 1985) is an English guitarist and songwriter. He is best known as the rhythm and lead guitarist and a founding member of the indie rock band Arctic Monkeys, with whom he has recorded six studio albums.
Jamie Cook and Alex Turner were neighbors in High Green. Like Turner, Cook asked for a musical instrument as a Christmas gift in 2001, receiving the first electric guitar from him. Cook has been the most outspoken member of the band, saying (that he) “fucking hates the press” and defending the band numerous times saying: “I couldn't see us being like Coldplay, it would be too boring. You tour for three years and play the same gig night after night. It must be very depressing. “Some people must love to do that, but we couldn’t.”
He gained fame for playing a red Fender Telecaster, which hit an amplifier on a live television show when the band appeared on “Saturday Night Live.”
Early in the band's career, Cook would join Matt Helders and Andy Nicholson on backing vocals for songs such as "Fake Tales of San Francisco", but currently avoids singing.
Cook also considers himself to be the "indie music fan" of the group. With a musical taste made up of The Smiths, The Strokes, Oasis, and Queens of the Stone Age. Cook supposedly returned the band to what it is today.
