Toru Takemitsu is a master at expressing intrigue, suspense and that slight twinge of pain / anxiety you get when looking at a syringe. I feel like most of the harmonies here borrow from Japanese folk traditions, but I'm not qualified to comment beyond 'I hear five-note scales all over'.
