CFAST Cards not reading on any computer use with Pocket 6k

PostMon Dec 09, 2019 2:13 am

I just purchased the Pocket Cinema 6k camera, and with it bought a Lexar 3500x CFast 2.0 card, and an Angelbird AV Pro-CF. This issue I'm having is with BOTH cards.

I put the card into the camera, format it to exFAT, shoot a few clips, and when I plug it into my computer, it isn't recognized by the computer and I cannot access or view any media. I've used multiple card readers, tried multiple computers both PC and Mac, tried formatting to OS X Extended and opening on mac, nothing works. And this is with both cards.

It's as if any CFast card I put into this camera it just bricks...

However, when the card is in the camera, I can view and playback all of my clips so I know they are there, I just can't open them on any computer... PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

Did you change car reader cables, you need a new high bandwidth cable.

Caleb, could you list the card readers you have tried? Did you use the cables supplied with the card readers or a generic one?

Right Robert :-)
Many card reader are for compact flash and not for C-fast. Unfortunately most of reader sign CF READER but not specify the kind.
Seems the same but are not the same and often people waste his times around it. Different pins.

I'm using the Sandisk Extreme PRO CFast 2.0 Reader with the included cable.

Ok, I am using the same reader, that one works flawlessly for me.
What are the other readers you have tried?

And what's the firmware version on your camera?
Initially it was firmware 6.5 and the latest is 6.6

Firmware 6.6:

Firmware 6.5:

I'm using the same reader and it works for me but there are times it won't and I have to take the cable out and reinsert it. It's something with the cable.

I'm having essentially the exact same problem, except with a Sonnet SF3-2CFST TB3 reader and RED Komodo camera. I can format and use the Angelbird 1TB cards just fine in the camera, but I cannot get them to behave when connected to the computer at all. Maybe one in ten times a freshly formatted card will become visible in the finder, but that, too goes away as the computer corrupts the card. It's maddening!

I have been using the Sandisk Extreme PRO CFast 2.0 Reader for a few years now and it does work, however I do have an intermittent issue when it just can't recognize the card until I remove the cable from the card and reinsert it back in. It's rather frustrating at times so early this year I bought the Angelbird CFAST 2.0 card reader. The Angelbird reader has so far has been working as advertised.

Im having the same issue. I cannot get the Angelbird 1TB card to read in any computer. Other cards work fine. Maybe its a firmware issue. I can update that, but still need to somehow save the existing footage on the card.

It's very unlikely a firmware issue.

Please provide more information. The questions have all been written here in the thread already.

Did you try a Mac or just PCs?
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I tried both. But I found that if I put the card back into the camera, pull up the footage in camera, and then eject the card and put it back into the card reader it works. So I don't know if there is some kind of file corruption or GUI table interference happening or what. But I have an angel bird CFast card reader coming today. Hopefully that will work better.

Did anybody find a solution for this issue?

I'm also unable to transfer any of the files from the 1TB Angelbird CFast card to a PC. It's really weird because other cards work. I've also changed cables multiple times but to no avail.

Any solutions would be warmly welcomed. Thank you.

Which card reader are you using? To be on the safe side, I would go with the Angelbird CFast 2.0 readers. With the cable that comes with it, it’s been working for me.
