Great experience with Berkley School district. My daughter has had a wonderful experience academically and has thrived there. I love their philosophy of doing things in groups. This worked well for my child. Lots of class time to do work, so not loads and loads of homework. Teachers for the most part were great. The school has a laid back vibe and they let the kids really be who they are. It’s always felt like a safe environment as well. There are no finals , but large tests along the way. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing , but my daughter has been successful there.
In my experience being at Berkley the school itself is wonderful. Instead of end of term exams they use culminating assignments to help take off the stress for us. The staff are amazing, they offer ap courses and they really care about our education. However the students there can be very disrespectful. most of them have addictions and it's happening right under the administration's noses. From my perspective i feel as if they don't really do enough about bullying. Being at school is supposed to be a healthy environment where kids get education but in my experience these kids are standing on their tip toes trying to stay afloat in the heavy currents of the drama or the stress of academcis and social cliques. Many can become victims of this current because I know I have been. They really try to make a stress free environment though I understand they can't help that their students are emotionally immature because we are still kids so it will happen. If your family is wealthy go to bhs.
Berkley High is a very great school. I really enjoy the people and there are many opportunities that are available. Somethings that are not so great is when taking an AP or Honors class, as a black student you do not see as many of the same people in the classroom. this can sometimes be uncomfortable because you fellas though you have no one to relate to. Overall, Berkley is a really good school that prepares you for the future with many skills while also allowing for you to explore options for the future.
