So would I go to Osaka Airport from Hiroshima?

I would fly back from Hiroshima if there is a good flight to connect to your flight back to Toronto.

Another option is to go to Hiroshima on a day trip and train back to Tokyo or fly out of Osaka.

looks like I could fly into Tokyo and stay. Train to Hiroshima and stay. Train to Kyoto and stray. Taxi to Osaka Airport for direct flight to Toronto.

Osaka/KIX is served by frequent JR Haruka express train in less than 80 min direct - no traffic jam nor tolls. It'd be far less expensive than by taxis.
