‘Summer of Rockets’ recap: What happened in Episode 4?

Summer of Rockets continued on BBC Two in the UK tonight.

Written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff (Dancing on the Edge, The Lost Prince), the BBC’s new six-part mini-series stars Keeley Hawes (The Durrells) and Toby Stephens (Lost In Space)

Set in the UK during the tumultuous summer of 1958, Summer Of Rockets follows Samuel Petrukhin, a Russian-born Jewish inventor and businessman, who specialises in manufacturing hearing aids. Following the Soviet’s launch the first intercontinental ballistic missile, and the start of the Space Race, fear permeates the lives of all.

Here’s a plot recap for the fourth episode, which aired at 9pm on Wednesday 12th June 2019:

Kathleen (Keeley Hawes) visits a boarding house in search of Anthony, but has no luck.

Desperate to keep searching now that she knows he was once in the area near the boarding house, she plans to finally go public with the case, starting with putting up missing person posters.

Samuel (Toby Stephens) attends a Gentleman’s Club to speak to Armstrong (William Gaminara), who explains that they have reason to believe that people connected with the Shaw family could be enemies of the state.

Not knowing who to believe, Samuel confronts Mr. Field (Mark Bonnar) as to why his dog understands some Russian words. He wants Samuel to gain another invitation to the Shaw’s, and to memorise the layout of the house.

Samuel and Miriam (Lucy Cohu) attend a gathering at the Shaw’s for the Society for the Preservation of Victorian Buildings.

Once the guests are gone, and Richard (Linus Roache) and Kathleen (Keeley Hawes) are asleep, Samuel explores the house. He finds Arthur (Timothy Spall) is still awake, and they discuss the Soviet infiltration of the MI5.

Hannah (Lily Sacofsky) goes out dancing with Esther (Rose Ayling-Ellis), Kevin (Jordan Coulson) and Joel (Fode Simbo). Joel and Hannah dance together – the only mixed raced couple in the room.
