At 52 pounds, 15-year-old sophomore Peck isn't exactly the toughest kid at American High. Peck's teachers see him as an idiot, his classmates think he's a nerd, and his home situation is just as bad. With parents planning family time on their calendars and letting him sign contracts about his extracurricular activities. It's that he still has his friend Buddy Geiger, but otherwise his life would be pretty miserable. When Peck comes into contact with Emily, the prettiest senior in the school, things seem to turn. But just as he can move up the social ladder, his parents force him to join the chemistry club. Then he comes up with the idea of starting a chemistry project that will help him settle the score with his parents, shock his teachers, and maybe even win Emily's heart. But even Peck isn't prepared for the devastation that comes when he unveils his TSAT 3000 machine.
