The Tsirio Stadium in Limassol will become Cyprus' second national athletics stadium.
This was announced on Wednesday, February 28, by the owner of the stadium and chairman of the Olympia Athletics Club (GSO) Kyriakos Tsolakis.
In particular, Tsolakis said that the other day he held a meeting with the chairman of the Olympic Committee Ioannis Ioannou regarding the development of the stadium. The meeting was also attended by members of parliament, representatives of the Limassol municipality and other dignitaries.
As a result, it was decided to carry out a complete renovation of the sports facility, which could make it the second national athletics stadium in Cyprus. It is expected that the documents for obtaining the relevant license will be submitted shortly. The implementation of the project will begin as soon as Tsolakis has the permit in hand.
Recall that the Tsirio Stadium (Τσίρειο Στάδιο) is an all-purpose multi-purpose stadium located in Limassol.
It was erected in 1975 with money from generous sponsor and great philanthropist Petros I. Tsiros. The stadium has a capacity of 13,331 people. It hosts soccer and athletics competitions. The stadium is currently the home arena of the Cyprus second division soccer club Krasava.
