2022-23 NBA Most Valuable Player Joel Embiid has starred for the Philadelphia 76ers since being selected third overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. The six-time All Star has averaged 27.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 31.9 minutes over 410 career games, all of which he has started. His splits include shooting 50.0% from the field, 36.7% from three-point range, and 82.2% from the foul line.
A native of Cameroon, Embiid grew up playing mostly volleyball and soccer before being spotted by former NBA player Luc Richard Mbah a Moute at a camp in 2011 and influenced his decision to play high school basketball in the United States. He enrolled at The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida and earned the opportunity to play in both the Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoops Summit before receiving a basketball scholarship to Kansas University.
In 2021-22, “The Process” became the third 76er to win the NBA’s regular season scoring title (Wilt Chamberlain, Allen Iverson); the first seven-footer since Shaquille O’Neal (2000); and the only international player ever. His 30.6 per game average made him the first center since former 76er Moses Malone to average more than 30 for a full season (1982), and repeated the feat in 2022-23, scoring 33.1 points per game.
