A lot of history in a small village. The docent was very knowledgeable and knew a great deal about the history from when it was established to current times. There are quite a few displays inside to see and the grounds are really nice to walk.

Very small town square with a few remaining buildings. It was def a self guided outdoor tour. I don’t think I would recommend this as a stopping point.

There is not a ton to see, but what is there is very interesting! The grounds are also very nice for a walk. A very interesting piece of early Maryland history. Worth your time for a short visit.

The courthouse and Stagg Hall are all that remain of this once thriving town. Port Tobacco offers a stark lesson in the importance of land preservation. Over farming with tobacco and timber cutting led to silting in the Tobacco River and its demise as a port for shipping. The two buildings are interesting, but Stagg Hall is overly crowded with artifacts. The guide was very helpful in learning the story of Port Tobacco.

Was on our way through, as we passed by decided to do a quick stop. Did not take the time to tour but took time to read the historical signs and markers. Fascinating history and if s history buff would be worth the time to venture out and check out the various buildings and wonderfully maintained grounds.

A visit to Historic Port Tobacco Village takes you back to the 17th Century. Stagg Hall and the Burch House are a delight, showing the visitor authentic homes of that time. The Courthouse gives the visitor a real feel of 17th Century judicial proceedings. It is truly a mini-Williamsburg and well worth a visit.

It is small, but there is a good amount of history here. The tour guides are great. If you are in Southern Maryland, it is worth your time.

Port Tobacco was once the county seat of Charles County, and is the smallest incorporated town/village in the state of Maryland. There is not much left of what was once a thriving town, but the history is brought to life by the enthusiastic volunteers who will take you into the few remaining buildings, and answer all your questions. It is worth a stop for an hour or so.

Port Tobacco was once the 3rd largest seaport in the colonies. Stop by to see historic renovations and learn about local and colonial history. Visit the small museum on the second floor of the court house, listen to docents explain the history of Port Tobacco, and take a walk along the river.

Stagg Hall is the main attraction here and is a mid-18th century house with interesting woodwork that was bought by the Art Institute of Chicago and later bought back and reinstalled by the family. Received a personal tour and there are also some exhibits as well. The reconstructed courthouse and another historic house are also operated by the group and there are signs around the grounds with more information. Interesting and free.
