The school is generally very good, though they work so hard to keep students safe that they end up curtailing basic autonomy in the process (ex. no staying in the bathroom for longer than five minutes before you get marked as cutting class)
I believe my high school experience has been pretty good. As a transfer student my junior year I learned to adapt and make myself a part of my school community and a active learner in the new environment. I am sad to say goodbye but the school has helped me grow and focus on my future.
Overall George C Marshall is a good school. The building is clean and updated. There are various different services to help kids prepare for college and harder classes, as well as a multitude of clubs. It’s a large school, but it manages to maintain a sense of community.
At Marshall High School I succeeded strongly throughout my 3 years where they have given me the ability to peruse my early graduation. My counselor made it accessible and helped me to make an informed decision to graduate early. At Marshall I was pushed to try my very best while recovering support from teachers, counselors and administrators all around me. I overall had a good experience at Marshall despite at times have difficulties with course work or making friends I was offered support to succeed.
George C Marshall is great for students who know what they want. Whether it be the IB diploma or wanting to go to a specific college. It’s not great for those stuck in purgatory. The faculty is great but the resources are slim
Marshall High School is a great school that prepares you for the rigor of college through the IB program. There are so many teachers there to help you and they're so excited to do so. It's really hard not to find your place here since we have so many clubs and activities. Not only that, the theater department is phenomenal at Marshall with such elaborate plays. It can feel stressful at times, but it's nice to have this school community to lean back on.
the best parts were the diversity of the school, the worst was the lack of enforcement of certain students
I enjoyed the classes and extracurricular opportunities that Marshall offered, but it wasn't always to gain information or find classes that matched certain career paths that students wanted to follow.
At Marshall I've had a great experience playing for the football team. I have also taking many difficult classes, and the teachers have been a great help in preparing me for college. Marshall is the highschool if you want to go to college.
As a poc student I would advise you to avoid attending this school. This school is riddled with racism within both the staff and students. Slurs are often thrown around and receive little consequences. Staff will also ignore your concerns as well. This school has also had many racist incidents over the years many of which have received the attention of the news. One of the worst schools in NoVa.
The IB curriculum at Marshall is very rigorous and well-rounded overall which is something I've come to appreciate as well as the quality teaching and staff who teach IB courses. However, in terms of listening to the student body and ensuring that students have a voice in executive and altering decisions is something that the school lacks. Shortage of teachers also doesn't help the academic environment as there have been previous -- in my experience -- unqualified and overall difficult staff and teachers that made the learning environment difficult.
I think that Marshall has so far done a good job at preparing students for college. The relatively diverse population and abundance of extracurricular opportunities has helped many peers and I in the search for a major. With that being said, there is a significant competition culture between many students regarding academic achievement, which can demotivate even the brightest student at times.
The best part of Marshall high school was the quality of education and the amount of classes available. Being at an IB School prepared me for college much better than an AP school. However, sports at Marshall high school and the clubs were subpar compared to rivel schools.
IB program is not the best. The way grading works does not make sense as we were often told the first semester grades will be bad because you dont know how to do IB yet. Isnt that suppose to be what they teach. Students are a mix, with some very nice and others not as much.
I had a great experience at Marshall, and would not change anything they did. The culture and environment at this school was great, and promoted individuality as well.
I've been a student at George C. Marshall High School for almost three years. Throughout these years I've grown a great deal and my experience has been unique. This school is a very prestigious high school that's very focused on not just the aspects of education but sports, diversity, involvement, and culture. Even during the pandemic when schools were online, this school remained focused on our involvement not just in education but to feel a sense of belonging by creating various clubs. Not only that the school prides itself on its ability to make each and every school feel like the belong, they've accommodated to many students needs based on their religion, identity, and requests. These are only a few of the many wonderful features this school has had to offer.
Great school, IB program prepares students for college. Security guards need a serious reality check.
