Le Grande Arche de la Defense is a contemporary building located in Puteaux town, which is located in the surroundings of París, the main city in France. It is a big arch in a modern neighborhood. It was built at the end of the 20th Century as a big project of François Mitterrand to commemorate the 200 years of French Revolution. Really, it is a very beautiful building, from where you can see this modern neighborhood with a lot of skyscrapers. In fact, you can see it from the bottom and it is awesome. Nowadays it is not possible to visit because inside there are offices from different enterprises.

If you are curious about seeing a real French Shopping mall, come here.

There are many exciting shops like a huge supermarket, French brands boutiques and ethnic food stalls with a heavy French twist.

Very few people here speak English, so download Google translate before coming or get fluent in French.

Good quality clothing, some interesting poke bowls and thai food. Macarons and make up shops are everywhere.

It is one of the 69 works of art that can be find in the open air museum that is La Defense. Interesting, like all the others.

It is actually a large mosaic (850 square meters) created on a chimney about 30 meters high. It's impressive, not only because of the size.

A modern interpretation of the pediment of Temple of Zeus at Olympia created by Anthony Caro. I guess the effect it's a little it ruined by the tents of the Christmas market but the tends will go away, I'm sure.

Other 68 artworks are to be discovered in La Defense.

We had high expectations for visiting the immersive Cite de la Histoire after seeing the excellent Gunpowder Plot in London, and also wanted our teen children to learn about French history. Unfortunately, only the Victor Hugo portion had an English translation with headphones (though it was a bit hard to hear over the broadcast), and our Francais not good enough take in much of the other parts.

The first section is a broad historical timeline, and we used Google translate to help with the screen spiel. (The teens quickly tired of this).
The second part is the Victor Hugo, based around letters between he and his lover/wife. This had English via headphones.
The third was an interactive theatre, moving through over a dozen rooms, some with actors and others with a voiceover. The actors did try to give us a run down in limited English, but it was not easy for them to change script and not sure how this could be improved for international visitors. Perhaps keeping the audio guide and having an English translation, or give warning on the website when booking that the show is only in French.
I was disappointed, but mainly due to our lack of language skills to keep up, as the actors were terrific.
