This 29'' secretary desk is just right in smaller spaces. Crafted from solid wood, it features a traditionally inspired silhouette with six small upper drawers, a larger lower drawer, and a fold-out writing surface. Metal drawer pulls with a brass hue and floral design add a classic finishing touch. We love that its gently distressed finish adds to its antiqued look. Plus, it works as a vanity for a petite bedroom or a console table in space-conscious entryways.

I am disappointed in the quality of this desk. First, the drawer bases and the back of the desk are NOT wood - they are probably MDF (a compressed wood derivative product that looks like smooth cardboard in its "raw" state). That is particularly disappointing because I bought this desk in large part because the product was described as solid wood and because the back is "finished". Well, yes, it's painted, but the difference between MDF and wood is apparent even from a distance, and the back of the desk faces the rest of my living room. For accuracy, Wayfair needs to be honest about what this piece actually contains.
Second, calling it a "distressed finish" doesn't mean "missing finish in noticeable areas" or "parts of this piece were put in contact with each other while still wet" (the corners of the folded desk part). This is sloppy and unprofessional, especially at this price. As someone who does furniture refinishing, it is apparent that the manufacturer applied a second finish on top of another (what appears to be the red oak color). Unfortunately, that means that the second finish doesn't adhere well, and it appears to be not much more than a thin top coat. In addition, the presence of "blank" spots (where original color shows) shows that there is little to no quality control.
Third, putting this together was awkward - the large drawer of the desk must be fully extended to access the holes. There were no instructions, so it was a series of efforts to use the styrofoam from packaging to prop the desk up. It would be helpful if there was at least a notation of what you have to do, but that's a minor complaint compared to the quality issues.
I'm keeping the desk because it fits the space and purpose I need, but I am very disappointed that Wayfair is selling this product with such obvious flaws. I recommend that Wayfair impose some quality controls if it wants to maintain any reputation for customer service.. Lorraine. Crawfordsville, IN. 2021-12-21 08:48:30
