I can recommend the film of this, wholeheartedly, cuz it's funny, thought-provoking, and extremely high-energy. Made me a Tom Waits fan. But I can't exactly recommend this soundtrack album, cuz it not only presents the songs in a different order, but also omits at least two of the songs, which happen to be my two favorites: "Innocent When You Dream" & "Shore Leave". It's like The Beatles' "Sgt. Peppers" album without "With A Little Help from My Friends" & "A Day In The Life", or Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour" album without "A Fool On A Hill" & "I Am The Walrus", or Beethoven's 9th minus the Finale, etc. In short, a mutilated, incomplete work; a masterpiece mis-presented.

Tom Waits is enigmatic, odd, particular, singular and just completely awesome. He also happens to be an artist thate excels live even more so than recorded and a Tom show has to be quite the experience. Enter Big Time... which is probably one of the best live compilation albums I've ever heard. The quality is good but the overall delivery is just a thing to revel in because Tom is first and foremost an entertainer and he takes songs that are already elite in and of themselves, and gives them a bite that just makes you smile. From start to finish, his gravelly tones dance along arrangements that really do seem like a genre gumbo fit for any music buff eager to listen to a little of everything at once.

It seems to be very handy and helpful for short range shooting. A universal mount on the groove attachment mount would be an improvement. Didn't work for half inch grooves, so had to improvise. Nice dot system tho. And it holds adjustments.

Great document from a great artist

I owned all of Tom's records except for this so I bought off of here and wow what a treat it is! My favorite album by him changes throughout the year depending on where I'm at in life but this is certainly a new favorite. The band is smokin hot and his small adaptations of particular songs was astonishing and way down in a hole is and insane work of art.

He surely does rough up this otherwise brilliant material! Now I'm buying swordfish...and Rain Dogs to hear what that material really sounds like. But it's all good...Enjoy!

of interest if you're a committed fan

not so much if you're new to waits, the sound quality's not great, but if you're a fan, this is a good live album with some great renditions of certain songs. while some suffer in comparison to the studio version, some, such as "telephone call from istanbul", are indescribably better. that song is sublime here, with a great bass solo near the end too. you also get the interesting "strange weather", which i don't think can be found anywhere else, and that's a very decent waits song. i'd say those two tracks were the best reason to get the album, and if you're a real waits nut, you'll get it regardless of what i say! if you're new to waits, i'd advise against starting here, and instead try "swordfishtrombones", "rain dogs", or "frank's wild years" to listen to the studio output behind these songs first, to see if you like it.

you may be disappointed...

I bought this cd on the strength of a review that stated Tom talked between numbers and his comic timing was as good as any stand-up comic. Don't get me wrong; I'm a big, big fan of Mr. Waits but I do feel that if he's live, you do need to see him (be it dvd or live set) rather than just hear him, except for the case of Nighthawks which is just a perfect album. I bought this cd only to find there is no interaction at all. As each track comes to an end, the applause etc is quickly stopped (removed) and the next track starts. Still an interesting listen but I was blisteringly disappointed that the chat and funnies had been edited out. Still, buy it for your collection and, hopefully, you'll enjoy it.

Tom waits hes yer man!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 12, 2016
this album is a live show playing songs from mainly the three classic waits albums in the 80s when he was the most interesting artist and person on the planet. Strange weather train song cold cold ground all grand. What is it about tom waits music? To me its about being alone and desolate but not caring that youre alone. I think thats what tom is saying and its beautiful. The version of telephone call from istanbul is sped up and really jumps and swings. Falling down i also like. But as a whole Big Time is atmospheric and just a fabulous thing. A bargain at under 5quid as well!
