West Ham told to get rid of Emerson after 'shocking' Chelsea error

West Ham United told to ‘get rid’ of Emerson after ‘shocking’ incident v Chelsea

West Ham United have been told to “get rid” of Emerson and Angelo Ogbonna by Clinton Morrison following a “shocking” incident in their clash with Chelsea.

David Moyes’ side’s torrid run of form in the Premier League continued as the Scotsman watched his side lose 5-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (5 May) as speculation continues to circle around his future at the club.

While none of the Hammers exactly starred on a miserable afternoon for everybody in claret and blue, Sky Sports pundit Morrison was particularly frustrated with Ogbonna and Emerson’s defending for Nicolas Jackson’s goal.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Sunday (5 May, 15:07) he said: “It’s absolutely shocking defending. Emerson, Ogbonna, I don’t know what they’re doing. It’s an ageing defence, just get rid of them all, they’re nowhere near good enough. It’s just one ball over the top.

“The defending is terrible. Emerson basically just watched and then says I’m not going to track you and Ogbonna can’t get back because he’s not as quick as he used to be and it’s a simple tap-in.”

Should West Ham United sell Emerson and Angelo Ogbonna and axe David Moyes?

The Hammers are well and truly on the beach. So many of the players on the field on Sunday looked uninterested in performing and you have to wonder if that could be a result of speculation around Moyes.

While the work in possession was sloppy and a lot of that can be blamed on Moyes’ tactical set-up, the organisation off of the ball was embarrassing and a Sunday League team would have been more resolute.

Ogbonna is ageing and it should be expected that he was going to be half a yard slower this season, but he doesn’t loom cut out to play at this level. He may well be keen on a new contract, but his performances don’t deserve one.

Whether Moyes is in charge of Julen Lopetegui come the end of the season, a clear-out is needed at the London Stadium. Far too many members of this squad simply aren’t cut out for Premier League football.
