35 x 30 minute episodes
Hope and Gloria was rolled out by ex-Cheers producers Bill and Cheri Steinkellner when gal-pal stories, such as the British hit Absolutely Fabulous, were rating extremely well.
The show revolved around the unlikely friendship of local television producer Hope Davidson (Cynthia Stevenson) – who found herself single after her 10-year marriage to a cheating husband hit the skids – and free-spirited hairdresser and single mother Gloria Utz (Jessica Lundy) – divorced from well-meaning carpet salesman Louis (Enrico Colantoni) – who shared adjoining apartments (Hope was in 3C and Gloria in 3B) in Pittsburgh.
The two friends shared the ups and downs of their complicated but humorous lives.
Alan Thicke rounded out the cast as Dennis Dupree, the obnoxious host of the TV show the women both ended up working for.
The updated Odd Couple vibe was overused but worked for 35 episodes. Guest stars included Burt Reynolds, Adam West, Julie Newmar, Jeff Conaway, Lisa Kudrow, Swoosie Kurtz, Kirk Cameron, Regis Philbin and Dr Joyce Brothers.
