The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa earns praise from guests for its attentive service and comprehensive amenities, including the family-friendly pools and nightly entertainment. While the spacious rooms offer commendable views, some travelers suggest they could benefit from renovation. The resort's location is celebrated for its proximity to local attractions, though the nearby beaches may disappoint swimmers. Despite the relaxing atmosphere, opinions on the value are mixed, with many finding the pricing steep considering the additional charges and the need for updates. Nonetheless, the cleanliness of the resort consistently receives high marks.

We recently stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 6 days and 5 nights on our trip to Kauai and it was one of the nicer experiences we had ever had at a hotel. First off, we typically only use the hotel during our vacation as a place to rest but this was truly a resort in which I felt we should have stayed on the property more and simply relaxed.

First, a quick summary of the property:

It is HUGE. We had access to the Grand Club, which we used frequently but our room was on the other side of the resort. I feel we got our 10k steps in just by going to the club a couple times a day! Valet was speedy and efficient. Check in was very pleasant and we actually arrived earlier than standard check in (4PM). We asked for both an upgrade and/or early check in. Unfortunately the hotel was booked so no upgrade and our room wasn't quite ready but they gave us a key to access the Grand Club as well as four drink vouchers to use around the pool.. Of course, we had 2 boys, so the wife and I took their drink tickets and then bought their drinks in cash separately!

Once we got to our room, even though it was a standard room, it actually was quite spacious with a large bathroom and a balcony. In addition, once nice tough that I don't see often enough, especially with hotels with a nice pool or beach access - a clothes line that spanned the space above the tub so we could hang out suits to dry.

Pool/beach wise, there are so many pools and access to the beach that I never felt it was too crowded. The main pool areas would be the saltwater lagoon, which is pretty large and where our boys spend the majority of there time. There's a main pool with 2 jacuzzis easily accessible. There is a lazy river, which was VERY lazy in the sense that I felt like it barely moved. A water slide, where people of all ages enjoyed it immensely. Protip - it closes at 6PM but basically between 5-6pm there is no wait. And also access to Shipwreck Beach which has a pretty strong rip tide so I would say you should be careful but it was fun for the boys to play on the beach and have the waves splash them. All the pools were also services by an excellent wait staff for both food and drinks.

There are a few options to eat and drink on property and initially I didn't think we took advantage but in writing out trip review, it turns out that we pretty much tried everywhere once.

At Stevenson's we were told there were known for their Martini's so the wife ordered one. I opted for a flight of whiskey. She thought the martini was decent but not spectacular. For my flight, they were out of one of the three so they gave me extra of the other two. The vibe itself was great, not too loud, and if you were fortunate, I felt like a seat on the outdoor balcony/patio would have been great. We didn't order any food but the menu certainly looked appetizing.

For Tidepool, we ended up heading over and planned to order drinks at the bar and grab an open seat if one became available. It wasn't packed but there weren't any seats initially but after getting our drinks, a couple seats at the bar opened up. We then ordered another round plus a scallop appetizer, which was very tasty. I would like to add that several folks we had talked to mentioned Tidepool to eat at (both from the helicopter tour and tubing) even though they didn't know where we are staying.

As mentioned, we also ate at Seaview Terrace for dinner as a family one night and to be honest, for a fancy hotel, the food was surprisingly reasonably priced and very tasty (this is part of my comment about I thought the food was comparable to Beach House but maybe a third of the cost? Granted, you don't get the selection of fresh fish but I'm talking just about how we enjoyed our food). My wife ordered the lobster roll and she really enjoyed it. And this in addition to live music, which I believe is every evening. A very nice and relaxing way to wind the day down.

We did order food when we were at the pool and in addition to the standard pool type food (chicken tenders, hot dogs, etc), they also had a few choices that had the hawaiian flair. We tried both a poke bowl and the kalua nachos and both were very good. Note that we ordered food through one of the waitstaff as we reserved a bungalow for the day we spent at the pool and the service was great. I would like to mention that when we were at the pool and not at the bungalow, we received equally great service for the team in taking our orders.

The day we left, because it was a noon flight and 5 hours, I was afraid the boys would get hungry so I did take them to the breakfast buffet at Ilima Terrace. I found the pricing to be very interesting as it was $41 for adults but the cost for the kids was $1/per year which meant $8 and $10 for us. I found that was incredibly flexible because buffets are typically wasted on kids. There was a huge omelet station which I found interesting as typically at buffets, there's always a huge line but when we went, I was always the first or second one in line. The buffet had a decent variety and also some interesting fresh juice combinations.

There is also a Luau on site which we did not partake in that occurs I believe on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Pro-tip, it seems you can basically watch the show for free from the edge of the grass. I don't think most people would stay for the whole thing but I saw plenty of families watch for 5 or so minutes and move on. Great way to advertise!

I mentioned the Grand Club and it was a very solid option, particularly for families in which the breakfast was more than acceptable and a great way to start off the day. They had afternoon snack, then a light dinner as well, followed by a dessert hour. The menu has one main item that changes daily so it does mix it up a bit. The staff was very friendly and must have consistently worked there because I saw a few times where they greeted guests from previous visits. Also, the a/c was on and a great place to cool down, although in the morning/evening, the outdoor seating was quite pleasant.

All in all, would we go back? I feel like it is best summarized by the discussion my wife and I had about Kauai in general. Did we have a good time and would we go back to Kauai? And the answer is yes, it was fun and yes we would go back. However, it wasn't so exciting that we wouldn't mind visiting other places before making our way back. And the fact that we were at a VERY nice hotel had a big impact and would be a factor on if we came back or not.

We took our kids (ages 5 & 9) to Kauai over winter break. We decided to stay in a suite with a connecting room. (Photos attached are of room number, entry, living room, dining area, master bed. Not shown is the connecting room which is off the entry area, as well as a powder room.) This room is very large with plenty of room for all of us plus an eating area and a large balcony with gorgeous view (photo). The master has a king bed and large bathroom with separate bath and shower. The connecting room has two queens and a bathroom with combined shower/bath.
I can't say enough about the grounds. The pools blend in beautifully to the natural beauty. There is an adult pool area at the top which we did not have a chance to use. The pool we swam in has a lazy river with waterfalls and mini caves plus a fun pool slide. There is also a large man made lagoon. Although this was a popular time for tourists, we never felt the crowds as there was plenty of places to spread out. They also offer cabanas (4 lounge chairs and a cooler with water plus a basket of snacks) by the pool and ocean front. By the lagoon and ocean front, they have smaller two person covered lounge chairs. I recommend reserving these in advance.
They have several restaurants on site but if you're hoping for a late lunch (after 2:00, before 5:30), your only option is the pool side Cafe or room service. We had one dinner at Tidepools. Again, make reservations in advance. We enjoyed the Luau on NYE which took place on a large lawn overlooking the ocean. I think they did a great job of keeping the number of guests to a moderate level so everyone had a good seat and there was plenty of food.
Poipu Beach is a very short drive or mile walk and they have great snorkeling. Get there early if you drive as parking can be tough. Further down the road is a great shopping center with a CVS/Longs plus many dining options.
We choose the Hyatt over other resorts on the island (both North and South) and we were happy we did! By far, it has the best grounds, comfortable rooms, fantastic views and friendly staff.

We typically like to be out and about to not get bored at one hotel, but this hotel really had everything... all of the restaurants were great and we were never left without at meal time. The pools really make this hotel stand apart... the lazy river was one of our favorite parts as well as the salt water lagoon! Our room was amazing and I love that our building was only 2 stories- no one above us so we didn't hear any noises from other guests. Everyone that works at this hotel was nothing but amazing to us, and really went above and beyond to make sure my husband had a great birthday.

The proximity to the beach gave amazing views, but just to note you'll want to go a bit down the road to Poipu Beach if you want to swim. We didn't mind this, because we ended up sticking to the pool and lagoon, but still had the ocean noise & smell... perfect!

The view as you enter this hotel is breathtaking and it sets the stage for the overall feel of the resort. The hotel cleverly slips you inside and outside just on a walk to your room from the lobby. (I'm surprised there were no lizards in the hotel because they were outside, but I never saw one inside, ever.) The paths through the resort seemed designed to slow you down and help you enjoy the beautiful and well-cared for landscaping, but it does mean you need to adopt that "aloha" mindset of "easy going." There were free laundry self-serve facilities, free bikes to use and water stations on site. The room was perfect for us...it was clean with a look and some amenities that met or exceded our expectations. The shops onsite are helpful, with some drugstore items in one store that were barely more expensive than at the Safeway on the way from the airport. And the location of the resort on the island is perfect for those who want to explore the island; you can spend one day going south/west and another going north/east and have your homebase nearly in the very center of the route.

This was our 4th stay at this Grand Hyatt and we have never been disappointed. From the minute you first walk in, you are amazed by the picture like view through the Seaview Terrace out onto the pounding surf. The grounds are well kept. The pools are plentiful and nice with plenty of service available while lounging. We always stay on the Spa side of the facility as it is more quiet than pool side. We had an Oceanview room. The Anara Spa is a peaceful resort within the resort for those who choose a spa day. They also allow access to a hospitality facility close by the spa for those who have late departures but want to remain at the resort after check out. This is a place to use bathrooms and showers and change and freshen up after you hang out a bit more and then head to airport. The workout facility has state of the art equipment and is accessible 24 hours a day. The resort fee covers any need for tipping. The dining experience was great, especially at Stevenson's Library which has excellent sushi. We also liked Tidepools which had the best seared Ahi in our opinion compared to other restaurants we dined at in the Poipu area. The only downer for us during this visit was that it rained a lot but there were periods of clearing especially during our last 3 days. We have stayed here in January mostly for our previous visits and this was first time we had more rain than not. Just luck of the draw. Overall, it was pleasurable experience.

This is a tremendous property with many amenities, terrific views and friendly, helpful and professional staff. We enjoyed the restaurants, live music, pool area and the vendors daily in the lobby/foyer areas. The portage fees being included allow for guilt-free use if the bell staff for luggage as the parking areas are a good distance from the rooms.

Wow, what can I say?! This is how every resort should be. I transferred Chase points to Hyatt for 5 nights, two rooms. Since it was an award redemption, the $40 daily resort fee is waived. My friend gifted me his Globalist benefits so I was able to take advantage of all the perks, sadly no upgrade available but we did get connecting rooms.

The daily Grand Club access in itself was a huge savings. Free breakfast, snack, hot hors d’oeuvres and dessert. My family was spoiled. The staff was so attentive, they greeted me as Mrs. Abelman every time. I also got a $150 laundry and dry cleaning credit per stay, per room. Even though the laundry rooms are free of charge (detergent and fabric softener sheets included), it was nice to have my shirts pressed and undies neatly folded! I also had access to the spa facilities and tennis courts.

The grounds were beautifully kept. The pools were amazing, my kids were there almost every day. Lounge chairs were hard to come by, you have to be REALLY early. Staff was supposed to remove unattended items if over 60min but no one did anything. If you have time, visit the hydroponic garden tour. They also offer free classes throughout the week, so definitely pay attn to their weekly calendar.

The grand Hyatt is a very large resort in a beautiful setting on Poipu beach along the southern coast of Kauai. The hotel frames the view of the beach as you enter and is organized around a central courtyard. The rooms are generous and have a variety of vistas from mountains to ocean. We stayed in a room which faced the mountains (and parking area) which was gracefully screened from view with a hedgerow of mature trees. There are multiple pools including a saltwater lagoon. We had dinner in Dondero’s which is an elegant dining experience. The spa has a broad range of treatments that allow rest and relaxation in a clean, peaceful space.

The location allows easy access to visit Waimea Canyon, or local shopping or to journey around the east side of the island to the north shore.

I have been a loyal Hilton Diamond member for many years, and the Grand Hyatt Kauai remains my favorite hotel property in Hawaii. This luxury property is located on the South Shore of Kauai on Poipu Beach in Koloa. The open air property stretches across a gorgeous stretch of beach with magnificent views of the Pacific. It is also next to a popular local surfing beach, which makes it really fun to watch the activity to the left of the property.

I was incredibly impressed with the hotel screening process, and their efforts to keep travelers and team members safe from COVID-19. The hotel had very few guests during my stay, as they had just reopened the property on November 1. Team members and guests were very compliant with mask use and social distancing, and I felt extremely safe during my stay.

My only two areas of disappointment were the lack of dining and room service options, and the fact that the spa was closed for renovation. Spa treatments were very limited, but I did enjoy a wonderful massage. manicure and pedicure. Room service is only available for breakfast, and there is only one restaurant available for evening dining or carry-out service. The two pool bars are open for lunch and early dining, but they close at 5:30 pm.

This was a solo visit, and I felt extremely safe at the property. The hospitality and customer service extended by hotel team members was outstanding, and I can't wait for my next visit!

Aloha SessaBocasconsin, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and share about it. In this time of COVID-19 it is reassuring to hear you felt safe with all the enhanced protocols and precautions we have put in place. As we ramp up after reopening on Nov. 1 we have since added a few more dining options including Stevenson's for dinner (sushi) and Seaview Terrace for coffee/tea and pastries. I understand your disappointment at not being able to fully enjoy our amazing Anara Spa! We are replacing the fire sprinklers in there currently and expect to have that complete by December, but I am glad you took advantage of the services offered in the temporary ocean view rooms. A massage sounds perfect right about now! Take care & visit us again sometime!

This resort is really a treasure. Plenty of space to swim and a gorgeous property. Shipwreck beach is one of those beaches with perfect snorkeling some days and perfect surfing conditions other days so it was a treat to be in this location.

The pool area is massive with a lazy river feel to it and some hot tubs. For my taste it was a bit cold some days in November and I wish there were sections that were deeper so I could dive and more properly swim.

The resort is massive and not an inch of it is wasted. That being said with some rooms this means a 10-20 min walk to the room. After awhile here I found myself feeling like I needed to pack for the day when I left my room to go to the pool.

Security is on top of the situation here and they were courteous when checking in on us while we swam at late hours. Make sure to bring your id.

The lobby is gorgeous and lets in plenty of light. Never seen anything quite like it.

Stevenson’s library is a treasure of a bar. After our first time there we went basically every time we could. Friendly bartenders and unusual but tasty/inspired drinks made it really memorable. Even if I am not a guest here going forward I will have to stop by.

We also did their thanksgiving meal which was tasty and fairly filling even though I eat a lot. They did a good job preparing the traditional foods while adding a bit of a twist. The service/servers did seem a bit overwhelmed as we felt forgotten on a few occasions.

Location wise the hotel is a moderate walk from Poipu beach which is a popular snorkeling spot with some nice places to grab a bite to eat. The drive to the roads that connect it to the rest of Kauai are a bit long and the location certainly adds some travel time to some destinations like the north shore.
