Rockin' in the Country

Rezension
Die Amerikanerin Wanda Jackson war bereits ein Country-Star, bevor sie durch eine Tournee mit Elvis auf den Rock'n'Roll-Geschmack kam. "Let's Have A Party" wurde promt ihr größter Hit. "Rockin' In The Country" faßt im ersten Teil die kurze Rock-Phase der Sängerin zusammen und beleuchtet dann ihr Country-Repertoire mit Schmachtfetzen wie "Why I'm Walkin'". ** Interpret.: 05-08

Wow! This sure brings back fond early 60's memories on the farm for me! I can still remember and hear mom sing a long with Wanda Jackson when her Hit song "Right Or Wrong" was playing on the radio. In those days mom even looked a little like Wanda. Personally I believe her version of "Right Or Wrong" belongs up there with the Top 100 Country Songs of all-time!
Speaking of that tune: three Wanda Jackson tunes I remember and love the most on here are "Right Or Wrong" which peaked on the Country Charts at #9 in 1961 and also "In The Middle Of A Heartache" which did even better and peaked at #6 also in 1961. Both of those also crossed over to the Pop Charts. "Why I'm Walkin'" is the third and it's also from 1961. It has a gentle touch of the Patsy Cline sound and it is Gorgeaus. Two other absolute favorites of mine on here are 1958's "Makin Believe" and 1970's Top 20 Hit "Fancy Satin Pillows".
I know Wanda has several newer CD compilations on the market today but considering the age of her eighteen songs on this Disc: the sound quality is very good and the mini biography and song info in the Liner Notes are also very good! Rhino comes through again! Her oldest song on this Disc is from December 1956 and the newest song is from November 1970.
On this day (5-20-14): if you buy one of these OOP Rhino CD's new: it is expensive but if you buy one used: it can be reasonable. My used copy is like new and the price was very resonable! Speaking of Liner Notes: here are a few of several comments Wanda made about this 1990 Rhino CD being released roughly twenty four years ago (REMEMBER: These comments were made by Wanda around 1990 and it has now been sixty years instead of thirty six):
It was exciting news for me the day Rhino Records called saying they wanted to re-release many of the hit songs from my early Country and Rockabilly recordings. I feel honored that after thirty six years of recording and doing concerts, people still enjoy my singing. What more could I ask? These songs bring back many happy memories for me. Some are from my first album: others I sang on shows with Elvis himself ! My hope is that, as you listen to them, they will make or bring back special memories for you.
Enjoy!
