- GradingMachineOak Park, CA578 contributionsI recommend booking directly with Schönbrunn Palace--either for a guided or audio-tour. My wife and I booked a tour with Aviator. This was not a cheap two-hour tour (108 Euros for two people). (Our guided tour in English at the Sisi Museum--which we liked better--was half the cost.) It is easy to find the meeting place (the green umbrella next to the fountain on your right as you enter). The check-in procedure is easy, and our guide (Oleg) was friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our tour and learned a lot, but "skipping the line" means that you will still be bumped by people constantly (just the summer crowds, I imagine). Also, it was hard to hear Oleg when we entered the building before we got our earbuds. I guess the most disappointing thing for us was that we didn't have time to visit the main gift shop before the garden tour. We only had time enough to go to the bathroom, and by the time we finished our tour, we could not go back into the building. :( In hindsight, we would have preferred to go with just a guided or audio-guided tour of the palace, so we would not have felt that we were on a treadmill and didn't have time to move at our own pace and shop.
Tip for visitors looking for refreshment: Gerstner on site is lovely. The building itself is gorgeous and the art, especially the Gustav Klimt collection is amazing. Tickets can be bought at the entrance to the zoo. It is open until 6:30 p.m., so you can also leave it for the end of your visit to Schonbrunn, but you need at least two to three hours to go around it. They seem to have every species of bird ever discovered, including some exceptionally rare ones. In addition to an extensive array of animal species, fossils, and crystals, the museum offers an extraordinary experience. Every time we came to Vienna, we visited the State Opera building, and we were spectators at an opera presented here.
From the attached photos you can see the grandeur of the performance hall and the access hall.
