Darius Morris’s legacy
Los Angeles-born Darius Morris went to Windward High School and helped lead his team to a state title, then went to the University of Michigan, where he was a standout with the Wolverines. There, he set the team’s all-time single season record for assists with 235, a feat since surpassed.
Morris returned to his hometown when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, playing two seasons with them alongside Kobe Bryant (1978– 2020) during Bryant’s last two playoff seasons. He played 67 games with the team. Morris moved to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he had a game with a career-high 20 points. He also had brief stints with the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies, as well as 38 games with the Brooklyn Nets, before leaving the NBA after the 2014-15 season.
Morris kept playing professional ball through 2020, spending time with the G League, NBA Summer League, and playing overseas before retiring.
