Parent: I have 2 students at Metro and we’ve been so pleased with the school! Our boys have been challenged yet supported and given opportunities to grow in their academics in ways that weren’t happening in our home district. True, there aren’t traditional extracurriculars like sports and music programs, so parents have to be proactive in either tapping into programs in their home districts (which Metro kids are still allowed to participate in) or find opportunities independent of a school environment. Parent: My children started at CPA during COVID. It was already a very challenging time for them being remote and starting a new school. I appreciated the creativity and devotion of the teachers during that challenging time and it set the tone for when they went back to in-person learning. It takes very special people to be able to educate and mold children and the staff at CPA have exceeded my expectations! Senior: My overall experience with this school is not bad, but it could be better/there is for sure room to grow. The best parts about going to school here are the different kinds of friends I made, the different teachers I met, and the overall vibe of the atmosphere in the different classrooms. Also, everyone helps out one another when they get the chance. However, the worst parts (personally) is the "diversity" aspect of it, how extremely serious situations are handled by higher-ups/admin, and the communication between students, parents, teachers, higher-ups/admin, ect. Junior: Although the academic opportunities are outstanding, the quality of the building environment is very lackluster. Teachers are mostly great, but there are some very high profile exceptions. As for college readiness, the IB program offers a unique opportunity to earn college credit. Alum: It is a small-sized school. I had a great experience there. As long as you keep your grades up, you can go to college for completely FREE and graduate with an Associates A.A through their Early College Program. The teachers are very friendly and involved in the students education. TCS has a deep community culture and it really feels like a second home. The majority demographic is Black, African American, or dark skinned individuals. The student population is very diverse and there is a place for everyone. Zero tolerance bullying policy; I have never seen anyone bullied or harassed at this school. Even though TCS is a public charter school, student fights do not occur often at all. School admin and staff truly care about safety and wellbeing for everyone. The lunch food options have improved. Work-study option is available for non-college students. Niche User: It was amazing to me. There were more diverse students there than any other school where I experienced. The school may not had sports or music programs, however, they do lots of art programs and sometimes theater. The teachers were so good to me and treated me very well and that's when I learned that I was safe there. It was like another home to me. That school will always be a part of me for the rest of my life! I wouldn't know how to get where I am now, if it wasn't for those magnificent teachers.
