Well, that was quick. Not six months after Dr. Phil ended its 21-season run in daytime, Dr. Phil McGraw has announced a primetime version of Dr. Phil that will air on his newly formed cable network.
Dr. Phil Primetime will premiere Tuesday, April 2 at 8/7c — the same day that McGraw launches the aforementioned cable network, Merit Street Media.
“I absolutely love talking to real people about real problems,” McGraw said in a statement Monday. “People who aren’t just complaining but are actively looking for real solutions to better their lives. It all begins and ends with real people dealing with these issues for real, using common sense, fact-based information, and action plans to create results.”
As for Merit Street Media, our sister site Deadline notes that the network will “initially offer multiple hours of original daily programming, including live news broadcasts.” Adds McGraw: “The audience will dictate our content because they are our content, and I want my viewers’ help in building Merit Street. I continue my pledge to help individuals, couples, and families have the tough conversations, face the hard realities, and get real answers for the most positive and effective outcome.”
McGraw confirmed his daytime retirement in January. “This has been an incredible chapter of my life and career,” he said of the past two decades. “But while I’m moving on from daytime, there is so much more I wish to do” — and now we know what his plans entail. His final episode in daytime aired May 25.

So in an era of known cable channels getting cut from the major systems, PM thinks now is the time to introduce his new channel? Oprah he is not! Though if he offers it for essentially free, I suppose the cable operators will sign up.
Sounds like a great time to launch a cable channel.
Even if cable wasn’t on it’s last leg I don’t think this channel would ever work. Has a channel launch ever bombed badly or will this potentially be the first one.
CNN+ was gone within a month.
Doesn’t count; it’s a streaming service.
This is so weird. Why not just make a new syndication show that can be bought by TV channels and streaming services?
Three reasons:
1) $
2) Might have trouble finding carriers
3) $$
Everything is about money. But who is giving money to this useless network? Who is funding it and the show?
It can’t be about money. He walked away from boat loads of cash with his syndicated talked show.
He’s sinking money into a dying media.
Is HE sinking money into it? Or are INVESTORS sinking money into it. When you are playing with other people’s money it is very easy to make stupid decisions
Because by trying to have his own network, he can go full-scale MAGA now without fearing cancellation. He and Robin can pose for pics with the obese Cheeto again; he can talk about the “core family values” (read: white guy tells everyone what to do) that was mentioned in other versions of this article.
When people show you who they are, believe them.
full-scale MAGA?
MAGA literally means “make America great again. Who in their right mind thinks that’s a BAD thing?
Ngl, when I saw his picture I thought I was about to read his obit
This channel is gonna be shut down in less than a year
Oh no!! Just when you thought it was safe…..Heee’s baaack!
Nope. He’s lost his flare to me.
Saying the quiet part out loud: “The audience will dictate our content because they are our content…”
Only the number of eyeballs glued to the screen matters, because that’s the real product being sold to advertisers. More lowest common denominator/reality programming incoming.
Forensic Files.
It’s cheap to air and has a large catalog. Look at the other channels that air it to fill up their schedule, courtTV, true crime as well as local stations.
So happy to hear the good news, we need Dr. Phil to help navigate thru life. I personally have learned to be a better person. Watch Dr. Phil, learn from others mistakes. Avery person can learn, if you have an open mind
Oy.
I would watch if I could figure out what channel, I looked oN OWN
They are still old shows.
Yes I will “watch” (record) dr Phil prime time!
I hope I will be able to get it. Don’t have cable.
I would like to watch as an avid fan, but we do not get it on Spectrum in Cleveland Ohio from what I can see.
This is AWFUL!
A very cruel man and his fawning wife. They should be embarrassed.
Dr. Phil and his entire staff are so dead on when ferreting out the BS, and sets us all on the right course! You, Dr. Phil, have so much more to offer to humanity…
I look forward to the new Dr Phil show. I miss Dr Phil talking about mental health issues. Since the onset of Covid 19 and the rule of sheltering in place, my husband who is on the spectrum refuses to leave home, and when we have guests over he hides away in his bedroom. I’d like to hear Dr Phil’s thoughts on problems like that.
Could this be another platform for Trump? Or maybe Dr Phil is ramping up to be the next Trump.
Have watched Dr. Phil ever since he was elected n Oprah, Love him and Robin. As soon as I can locate him on our tv I will be watching. My husband and i went to his book signing on Saturday at Grapevine Mills Mall. We are reading his book now. Definitely be watching.
I’m disappointed that I can’t get Merit street Media. I never heard of it. You lost a faithful watcher.
Dear Dr.Phil, thank You for all of your very educating talk shows & Thank You Robin for all of your support educating Women. I will miss you both. I always wanted to open up & talk with you both, but never had the Moxy to write to you both about my Family & the things we had to endure. I love you both.
Are you technically retiring if you’re practically doing the same thing somewhere else?
I’d like to know specifically where and when I can watch Dr. Phil — in other words, day of week, time of day, and channel.
Absolutely! Good chance to hear some of the political issues from somebody with common sense rather than the media.
