Anya Taylor-Joy has confirmed her marriage to husband Malcolm McRae, two years after they wed.

In a second anniversary tribute posted to Instagram, the Queen’s Gambit star wrote, “Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans. The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever. Happy second ( first ) anniversary my love…you’re the coolest🫀.”

She shared photos and videos of their wedding day celebrations at New Orleans's Hotel Peter & Paul (a separate occasion from the ceremony they held in Italy the following year). The pictures, which include a cameo from longtime friend Cara Delevingne, capture Taylor-Joy in a dramatic white cathedral veil and a magnificent beige Dior princess gown covered in colorful embroidery of animals and flowers. Of her bridal look, the actor wrote that it was “beautifully embroidered with our love story by @dior.”

One snap shows the couple’s unique wedding cake: bloody fist-size cakes that are quite literally shaped as hearts. Taylor-Joy adds, “Yes, those are anatomically correct heart cakes. Yes, I am the vampire Lestat.”

Outlets previously reported in July 2022 that the couple had legally married in the United States before Taylor-Joy was set to start filming Furiosa, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, in Australia.

In an interview that same year, the actor opened up about her romance with McRae. “I said to my partner the other day that he was my hobby. I see reading as something that I have to do,” she said. “He loved it because he’s the same. I’ve finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading. We’re basically 80 years old and seven at the same time and it works really well.”
