Woman reported missing from Montana found in trunk near Spokane airport

A woman reported missing from Montana earlier this week was found dead Thursday near the Spokane airport.

According to KIRO 7's sister station KHQ, 47-year-old Rita Maze's body was found stuffed in a truck at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Prix, belonged to her, police said.

Maze died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, investigators told KHQ. The manner of death has not yet been ruled a homicide.

Maze’s car was found at West Geiger Boulevard and South Spotted Road. Police found the vehicle by pinging her cellphone.

Police believe Maze was abducted sometime before noon on Tuesday in Montana. Maze’s husband reported her missing Tuesday morning.

According to KHQ, Maze phoned her husband from the trunk of her car Tuesday, saying that a man had hit her on the head and that she was now in the trunk of her car.

Maze was traveling from Helena to Great Falls at the time. Police suspect this may have been a random act of violence but that's still under investigation.
