Fond du Lac Police were involved in a vehicle pursuit early Saturday morning that started out as an accident. A 20-year-old Fond du Lac man hit a light pole, stop sign, and street sign in the area of North Peters Avenue and Security Drive. The vehicle was smoking when officers arrived, and the driver refused to exit the vehicle. An officer broke a window in case the vehicle started on fire, and they needed to get the man out. The driver reversed the vehicle and drove away. The driver went through a fence, field, another fence and hit an unoccupied vehicle. He continued to flee. Police used their Bearcat or armored rescue vehicle to limit the driver’s ability to continue to flee. He exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. The man was arrested on charges of OWI, fleeing, and recklessly endangering safety. An officer suffered minor injuries breaking the window of the driver’s vehicle.
