Nothing but legalised fraud

How this company is allowed to legally operate in the U.K is beyond comprehension. Don't believe the literature it's nothing but lies and deceit.
Tried to claim for a period of illness, provided all paperwork and medical evidence and they simply pick out the bits that suit their argument and ignore the rest. They didn't contact my primary medical professional for any medical details and the person reviewing the claim omits information and doesn't give titles to conditions making them sound less severe.
Avoid like the plague, save our money and your stress levels.

Wel Claims Experience

i applied for Wellness claims on 03/05/2024. According to the website the check was issued on the 5th. I took until April 1, for that payment to get to me. I have call to cancel the checks and the cancelled the payments on both checks. One check was cancelled and reissued on 03/27/2024 and the other check has not been issued. This is not good customer service and it should ot take this long for a check to come from Chatanooga, Tn when i in Memphis Tennessee. Check you processes

Horrible

Horrible. I have called the person in charge of my short-term disability case multiple times in a two week period and I have not gotten called back despite voicemails left with very clear questions and requests to be called back. The general number is not helpful because the people who answer those calls don’t know as much as the person in charge of the case. My initial claim took about three weeks or more to be approved (while I was off work) and they only approved it for a very short period of time. That was stressful because I missed pay and didn’t know if it would be approved or not. I have now requested a two week extension. We are now one and a half weeks into the two week extension and I still have not received a callback or received an approval. My status still says pending. How can it take two weeks plus to approve an extension? Additionally, my HR is sticking up for them and saying that they probably need more information from my doctor. That would require them calling me back. There is no excuse for this.

Use a different insurance company

They make everything hard on their customers. I've wasted HOURS on the phone with them regurgitating the same info each time. Can't even calculate my wife's LTD properly, then have the nerve to ask for money back. Awful customer service.

If i could give ZERO

If i could give ZERO, I would!! I purchased this thru my job and added my spouse and 4 children. My husband became critical ill and unfortunately, he passed away, when i filed a claim for this coverage, they DENIED me...I am already going thru losing my loved one and here they come making everything difficult. This is called CRITICAL ILLNESS coverage for a reason, I will NEVER purchase this mess again! I will also be reporting them to ALL agencies, this situation has further stressed me out! Why offer it? Why have me email and call you several times? This company has basically STOLEN from me and many others. I will also be contacting my local news because I promise this is not the 1st time they have did this...just check the reviews!

An awful company.....shouldnt even be in business, this entire process was a waste of time, money and only stressed me out more. THANK YOU FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but making my life more stressful....so does this mean I get a refund (i am sure it doesnt) but it is not right that I paid for this coverage, my husband passes away and you deny the payout of the policy.....thieves!

I would give -1 stars if I could

I would give -1 stars if I could. I applied for FMLA thru UNUM because I live in NY and this was what he have to do. They made it confusing as possible by creating a second claim under "Short Term Disability" because their online SW is crap. So then it was impossible to get the forms in the right system to actually get something accomplished.

Hate them; Hate them; People on phone were nice just clueless.

It has been a nightmare

It has been a nightmare dealing with Unum. After reading the other reviews I'm almost jealous as I have struggled just to talk with a real person. The THREE phone numbers I have for this company direct me back to the website/app. I want to talk with a human. I have questions other than what is already posted online. Today after trying for well over an hour just pushing random numbers on my phone...I got a recording that stated...looks like your having some trouble I will connect you to a rep. The rep...says she has confirmed the paperwork is there. I can not say I totally believe it. As my Dr. Has sent the info twice over the last and I have not received an updated claim letter reflecting this. (on the app it does say reps are available 8a-8p leads me to believe I will get to talk with a human. Nope!
Absolutely asinine.

You will never get them enough documentation.

Had critical illness for several months. When i enrolled i was sent a link to enroll for UNUM's online access. I filed a claim was sent letter after letter wanting more information from myself, the Dr. performing the procedure, and the hospital. After submitting everything i was sent another letter that they couldn't confirm i had coverage. They forwarded a letter that was to be filled out by my company's HR, that was done. My company's HR rep called the UNUM rep and had them investigating it. They still can't verify that i have coverage. When i called in, i had to input my SS# so they could access my claim, recording came back that SS# was validated, then the rep came on the phone and said everything is being held up because they were never sent my SS#. After the phone call, i am still stalled out over them not being able to verify coverage.

I have had a life insurance policy…

I have had a life insurance policy since 1988. After making some changes, I have received no regular communications, no premium notices, annual reports or notices of fees. They charged fees that were equal to the dividends the policy was supposed to generate. Now they have refused to direct deposit my surrender value check, even though they directly bill my bank account. Terrible customer service and poor investment practices.

If I could give them a negative I…

If I could give them a negative I would. The company I work for uses them and they’re supposed to pay 60% of wages. I went on short term disability and I called because the math wasn’t adding up on my benefits. On 40 hours a week I would gross $840 so at 60% that should be $504 per week paid benefit. The rep told me since they pay for every day they then take the $504 and divide that by 7 days. Ummmm wrong! I don’t work 7 days a week and by them dividing it like that they’re technically only paying 42% of the 60% they should be paying!

My Mother had paid for Unum Insurance…

My Mother had paid for Unum Insurance since 2008, and their Bank switched to a different company. during that switch not everything was able to be corrected on auto bill pay. in short, her insurance lapsed and unum Insurance would not honor renewing or reinstate her insurance policy. Now that she has alzheimer's, "which she was diagnosed when the unum insurance was current", she has no coverage, no help. I would not recommend unum insurance to anyone, and this actually made me think that maybe as a country, maybe we should move more toward government healthcare. if this is what private insurance is all about. Stay away from unum!!!!!! What a waist of money over the years for something that small. Crooked! The stress its putting on this family...

I went on Short term disability

I went on Short term disability, nothing but argueing with these people, i had to pay out of pocket for them to get the forms they need, then they said they would reimburse me I am still waiting.
Then I was to be paid till February per some lady named proche poole and they stopped payment in January.
They took it upon themselves to cancel my benifits before my seeing my Dr. for my 3 month checkup, Which is going to be Feb 10. They used my other Heart Dr. who had nothing to do with my pacer to determine their canceling my money, I am still waiting for my 35.00 reimburshment ck. I am filing a lawsuit and complaint to the BBB
These people are full of CRAP and f"ing useless

I went on disability in October of…

I went on disability in October of 2022. I have a short term disability policy with Unum. In over 2 months I am fighting with Unum about receiving my money from them, it's one thing after the next. I have left messages for my rep and I have not received any calls back. I have been lied to about where the money is going. Short term disability with Unum is a rip off!!!

This company is a scam

This company is a scam! Please don't throw your money away. My dad paid on this policy from 1980 until he passed in May 2022. The last 3 years they charged him $800 a month. My poor 77 yr old mother has been trying to receive this money for over a year. They have any number of excuses: IT issues, someone must have hacked our system, "we will call you back" and never do, we will wire it Monday and never do, sorry our computers are down. They take advantage of older people during the worst time of their lives. I don't believe they have the money and will just stall old people until they just give up. Please don't put your family in this position because all your money you paid in just goes in the pockets of the upper execs.

I wish I could give them negative…

I wish I could give them negative stars! I have been on a approved FMLA leave since March 14th 2023. I also have short term disability coverage through UNUM that's paid for through my employer. It has been a constant struggle to get them to pay me disability. My doctor has filled out their required paperwork quite a few times with no STD approval. UNUM doesn't return my phone calls after I leave voicemails. They won't return my drs phone calls. My case manager Stephanie is horrible. Their communication is non existent. For the time I've been out I have received one payment and that was on April 14th. Really? I have called and spoken to general representives and they don't make note of my calls in my file or they oddly hang up on me when I give them my social. If they would pay me my disability then my insurance benefit payments would come out of that payment but because they don't want to pay I'm having to pay my benefits out of pocket. This entire UNUM experience has been extremely stressful on top of what I'm already dealing with as fas as the reason for my leave! They are getting paid but don't want to pay people!

I was a insurance officer in a company…

I was a insurance officer in a company unfortunately I experienced a horrific trauma, which left me totally disabled. Like most people in our industry I wanted to protect my family so for years I used UNUM, then I needed it. As many have experienced with UNUM it's not about you it's about the money. Don't believe a word that comes out of these peoples mouths at age 51 I should have been covered till I was 65, I received 18 months benefit. They said if anything else develops give them a call well something did happen a heart condition of which doctors said the air of the 9-11 disaster I breathed for 4 years was a contributing factor but the response from UNUM was an emphatic YOUR CASE IS CLOSED. I had no recourse there have been 100's of suits brought by AG's including mine UNUM has lost everyone of them unfortunately that money never seems to trickle down to those who were screwed yes screwed by UNUM Insurance, I spent 25 years in the insurance business rose from an agent for Prudential to a Regional Director in the largest brokerage firm in the United States, worked with a insurance company on special assignment in the southeast that offered high risk personal loans to ferret out those in the company that were taking advantage of the people who could least afford it; I never thought I would be on that end but Unum made sure they gave me one swift kick down the stairs and shut the door. Stay away this is the scorpion that convinced frog to get it across the stream and then killed the frog "just because it IS a scorpion"
