This time around it is Gaelin and Mayra which made for a bit of an interesting match-up since in this world, angels and demons don't really mix well. The relationship was a lot of love/hate for a long time in the story.
We seem to be lining up for an actual overarching plot that is not quite clear yet but it almost looks like we are finished with the "isle" of the series title. I guess that remains to be seen yet.
This story was a bit unique in that it had at least 3 characters I really did not like, add in the really overdone self loathing and it was not that enjoyable a read for the first 50% of the book and if you have not read Make Me Whole there are a lot of holes in the story that you will not understand so even though it is supposed to be a stand alone book, I recommend you read all the other books first BUT reading Make Me Whole: Isle of the Forgotten (2.5) before this one is pretty much a prerequisite to have the needed background to really enjoy this book IMHO.
Bottom Line: Great story, too much self loathing, the love/hate thing almost was overdone but wasn't thankfully, for the first 50% of the book I was looking for somebody to actually like but it got much better. 4 Stars and recommended with above caveats.
Truly, this series is a great read.
P.S. keep a stress ball with you as you read to prevent yourself from tossing the book/device against the wall. I was tempted.
Strong characters. Engaging storyline overall. Beautiful world creating, fantastic mythos.
4.5 Stars because the final fight scene, our hero (who is supposed to be the oldest Angle still alive, a total badass) gets trapped almost immediately and has to be rescued like a pansy. I think this was to showcase the Heroine as powerful in her own right, but I think it could have been adjusted a bit to accomadate both.
Still the whole rest of the book was fantastic. And even that fight scene has as neat repeat character from book 1 in the series. Loved that and it ended on an up note.
Mayra and her twin brother Marcus have just been exiled to the Isle of the Forgotten, a prison island with no escape. Gaelin has been on the island for a couple hundred years waiting. He started as a prison, but was recently freed, so he could escape. He knows that his mate will arrive sometime. Well, the time is now, and that person is Mayra.
Gaelin has fought demons for thousands of years. The fact that he is now mated to a demon he finds to be one of the cruelest of ironies. He now has to debate with himself whether or not he even wants to claim her.
In the mean time, Mayra and Marcus are slaves to a Necromancer, Nahir, who will stop at nothing to get them back. They get to experience their first chance at freedom since they were children, even if they are on a prison island. Nahir cannot control. But they know he's coming for them. First Gaelin popping into their lives, then the threat of Nahir makes the twins time very chaotic and full of fear.
First of all, the cover for this book is fantastic! Absolutely gorgeous!
In other news, I found this book somewhat disappointing. The emotions where there, however there were a lot of parts where I was just like, that was stupid. The relationship forming between Gaelin and Mayra is pretty good. Some parts I feel like Mayra deserved better, but it was ok. Some of the decisions made regarding their actions through the course of the book were dumb to me. Maybe it was just to get the plot to go where it needed to go, but I didn't care for it. So I honestly have some very mixed feeling about this book.

I really appreciate how the author make every couple different. From the begining till the end they have different relationships and issues to solve and dangers to face.
I have fallen in love with The Isle of the Forgotten series. I read all the books in two weeks and that's really fast since I barely have free time to read but couln't put them down. All the stories are entralling and the slow born romance so enjoyable and beautiful.
Outstanding debuting series. I highly recommend it to everyone that enjoy romance, fantasy, sacrifice, passion, love, adventures and don't go to the easy road of good and evil, light and darkness in absolute terms; If you like to wonder things and believe that there're gray zones and people deserve second chances, these are your books.
Beautifully written. It's interesting from the begining to the end.
SPOILERS:
OMG! I was biting my nails in the final chapters. I was almost cried when Marcus sacrificed himself to free Mayra. So brave and sad. I liked him too. Gaeling was quite a jerk with Aria in their first love encounter but like he said in the end, he had a lot ot time to making her up for it.
And I was thrilled to see Morthation and Quildor in the end and also Keric and all the Justicars. I was cheearing for them.
